The mage is instantly aware of how long ago a named event last occured within (Arete x 5) feet or (Investigation x 5) feet of his current location, whichever is lower. This can be a broad event ("when a merchant walked here") or a very specific one ("when Lilir and the Guildsman met to discuss a shipment of slaves to the Fair Folk"). If the event took place within range, the mage knows how long ago. Events beyond 1 hour old require a Perception + Investigation check with a difficulty depending on how long ago the event took place (1 for less than a day, 2 for less than a month, 3 for less than a season, 4 for less than year, 5 for less than a decade, 6 for less than a century, events older than a century cannot be gauged). If this roll succeeds, the mage receives an accurate time to within minutes of the event. If it fails, the accuracy is less precise by 1 division per success less than the number needed. For example, a mage who scored 3 successes on an event 23 years old would be able to determine the year and season of the event, but not the month, day, or time. Spend 3 additional motes to have this Charm last until the end of the scene.

Tattle-Tale Spirit

The exact nature of this connection is not defined, though on a successful Arete or Investigation check, whichever is lower, can allow the mage to discern the closeness of the connection as Prized (favorite cloak, lover's favor, childhood toy), Possessed (owned for at least a full year at some time in history), or Handled (appraised once, carried between two points, owned briefly and then sold). This Charm cannot be used twice in an effort to glean information about the object's relationship with an individual already named in the last month. Spend 3 additional motes to have this Charm last until the end of the scene.

Consult Object

Silence might mean any number of things, from "I don't know" to "Yes and no" to "That isn't a yes/no question."

By merely interacting with an individual for a few turns, the mage can tell whether the subject is guilty of breaking the local law recently without being punished. The crime must have taken place within the mage's Arete or Investigation in days, whichever is lower, and the mage cannot tell one infraction from another, so a beggar who stole a piece of fruit from a cart would appear the same as an assassin responsible for the brutal murder of several nobles. Unless the local law specifically forbids an act the suspect committed (casual murder in Nexus, for example), it does not count as a crime for the purposes of this Charm. Spend 1 additional mote to have this Charm last until the end of the scene, though it still takes a minute or so of interaction to smell guilt.

Seek the Simple Truth

For the rest of the scene, the mage is able to tell if a specific individual is telling the plain, direct truth as she knows it. Any attempt to mislead, conceal information, or lie is immediately detected as being less than the truth on a successful Arete or Investigation, whichever is lower, roll against a difficulty equal to the speaker's Willpower. This Charm may be purchased more than once, to a maximum number of times equal to the mage's Arete or Investigation, whichever is lower, with each application reducing the difficulty of the Charm's roll by 1, to a minimum difficulty of 1.
