More of Our Blair Experience, Rain

All of us have started adjusting to life at Blair. The conditions have been cloudy with mist, cloudy with drizzle, cloudy with lighter rain, and dark with heavier rain. The sun of the first day is a distant memory. We are hoping for sun tomorrow, Saturday, as it is to be Fair Day, a day of international fun and visitors.

Many activities have moved into the Kross. So along with the normal crafts and multi-cultural events set in there, some of the athletics have also moved under the cover of its big tent. The scouts are doing glass etching, candle making, Celtic art, Brian is an instructor, self-defense, multicultural exposure, electrical wiring, beadwork, theatre workshop, and more. The mural project is also now being done under the tent.

Some of the boys are trying to master the Chinese yoyo and juggling, among other skills. Steve has learned that what goes up does not necessarily come down as you expected. Drew has shown a liking for the trampoline. He claims it improves his line of sight. Robin has renewed and improved a friendship started at the Ceilidh in Glenrothes. He has also been dubbed the Harry Potter of the Jamborette.

Friday night we had an international song and dance night in the Kross. The show was a Jack Berry production and a huge success. The highlight of the evening was singing by the combined Kenyan and South African contingents.

The boys are all trying to get onto the Internet to send email and enjoy receiving your messages. However with only five computers for the whole camp and limited access time, it is not an easy task. Scott asked me to send his father a link to the site and its email connection (hint). Some of the boys say that they feel a sense of real freedom at Blair, the ability to act both more mature and crazy at the same time. David and Robin and Jeff are enjoying themselves that way.

More to come.

The boys find lots to do at the Kross, rain or no rain

Self-defense and New/Renewed Friendships can be the order of the day

The rain does not stop or slow down mountain survival training races or river rafting
