conventions
funny words spelling:
certain words will be spelled in an unconventional way to make them stand out.
filename, renwiz, sections of the screen like action tabs etc.
parts of the filename:
the filename itself - is everything up to the last dot(.). note that this is important since you can have many dots in
a filename.
the extension of the filename is whatever there is after the last dot.
the twist:
there is always a twist. renwiz has so many options that no one user ever uses them all. some of them may sound wacky and some
of them overlap others. the logic is clear - you decide. if you want to delete characters from the filename, by replacing some
letters with nothing - that's fine. it's reasonable to me if it is to you. that's why in some of the action pages you'll find a
section titled "the twist" and that is why renwiz is the best in it's category. there is the twist of this help file that's not
supposed to have any praise for the program. i couldn't help it...(pardon the pun).
the examples:
among the users of renwiz there are profesional photographers, web masters, merchants, picture and music collectors and many
others. you use different files and have differet views and occupations but you all need to rename. to explain things through the
help there is reference to two examples: the "example on screen" and just "the example".
- the example on screen is an area in the action tabs. it's always there (except when you look at the picture
preview or the system date/time/attributes tabs).
- the example otherwise is a case in which we have numerous files containing, for the example, music (normally mp3).
their current filename consists of the name of the song only. we want all the filenames to indicate the name of the artist, name
of album, name of song, number in album, year of print etc. we also want to separate these names and numbers by space or a dash (-
) or a combination of the two ( - ) or any characters which are legal in the operating system.
the example is not aplicable for all the users of renwiz but it's good because it is complicated, so bare with it.
