actions - replace
whether you want to replace a whole word or a single character or digit makes no difference. in this tab you have to
remember two things:
- the text you put into the "text to replace" - text box
is what renwiz
will look for. if you have one letter more - there will be no change.
whatever you will type in the "replace with" text box
will go into the
filename.
you also have to tell renwiz whether you want it to replace only the first time it encounters the text you wish to replace (i.e.
search string) or all of them. for example, you might decide you wish to take out all the "i"s from the name of the "dinkiest
smashing dashing washing sponges" band... (that'll be fine by me...). that's why there are two buttons on the left row that say:
- to replace only once, i.e. the first occurace.
- to replace them all...
note that by default, the button that's pressed is only first.
the twist: suppose you want to replace all the characters between two positions in the filename, no matter that's
in there... that's wacky eh? but let's say you do (if you noticed, this option infringes on "delete action" but ... also on insert
from "add action"... wacky it is...). then you'll resort to our famous button, the "fixed position"
and set three things:
- the text you want inserted - can be from one letter to... many.
- the position of the first character you want to delete where the text is to be inserted.
- the position of the last character you want replaced (removed).
this could lead to a funny situation: you replace 3 or 5 characters with 12 (or vice versa) in a specific spot in the filename...
