Jeff Garcia's Biography

Although Jeff played well in High School, no Division I College offered him a scholarship, so Jeff decided to go play football for his father at Gavilon Community College where he was the coach. After playing for his father he transferred over to San Jose State, where he set unbelievable school reords for most Career Total Offense and took his team to the East-West Shrine Game, where he earned MVP Honors.

Jeff Garcia was born February 24, 1970 in Gilroy, California to Bob and Linda Garcia. Jeff is the oldest sibling of the Garcia family. He has two younger sisters Jene and Melissa who are both in their early 20's. Jeff grew up in Gilroy and faced many obstalces while growing up with the dream of becoming a pro QB. When Jeff was 7, he lost two younger siblings, Jason and Kimberly, both to unexpected incidents in the span of 14 months. It was one of the hardest times he and his parents have gone through, but like always Jeff has been strong and he took his brother and sister with him on his journey. Jeff attended Gilroy High School where he prepped for football and also played basketball.

Again, although he put up great numbers in College no NFL Team called him on draft day, but Jeff didn't let that effect him, he decided to go try out for the CFL (Canadian Football League). In 1994 Jeff signed with the Calgary Stampeders as the third string QB, behind Doug Flutie. After Doug Flutie (now with the Bills) was injured, Jeff got his chance and he proved himself to be one of the best. In his last season (1998) with the Stampeders he took them to the Grey Cup and won a Championship and was named MVP for his faithful Calgary fans. Jeff was also named All- Canadian QB and West Divison All-Star

After talking to a few friends, Jeff decided it was time to go to the NFL, where the San Francisco 49ers picked him up. Jeff came in as the back up to one of the best QB's to ever play the game, Steve Young, but after Steve went down with a concussion that turned out to be a career ending injury in week three, Jeff had to jump into the driver's seat and take control. Many people did not think he could do it, but he did have his family and that was all Jeff needed. His first year was not one of the best he had had as he had a hard time getting 100% involved with the system (many people say it is one of the most difficult systems to learn) and getting in rhythm with his teammates. At one point during his first year he was benched in favor of Steve Stenstrom. Most people would not have been able to handle that, but Jeff used it to his advantage and got more determined to learn more about the system. Jeff ended the season with improving his play and stats but unable to bring wins home to San Francisco.

Most fans were not pleased with the 49ers decision to keep Jeff as the starter for the 2000 season but the Niners coaches knew Jeff had worked 150% during the offseaon and seen the improvement Jeff had made. We all were able to tell when Jeff started his 2nd NFL Season as he looked sharper and in more control of the things happening on the field. Jeff showed everybody that he could take over this legendary team and make them contenders again. Jeff set a 49ers single season record with most passing yards (4,278) beating Steve Young's 1998 record. Now that everybody had seen the greatness, Jeff was voted to one of the most prestigious places you can go as a player, The Pro Bowl. He accompanied two other San Francisco players: Terrell Owens and Charlie Garner. He was named to the Pro Bowl again in 2001 after leading the 49ers to the playoffs with a 12-4 record.

Jeff has proven he can be the next legendary QB and some of us have been lucky enough to beleive in him since the beginning. Not only is Jeff an awesome QB, he is an awesome person. I have had the pleasure of having conversations with him and his parents many times over the last two years as I am a avid fan of the Red Headed (looked cute when he was blond too) QB. I thank you for reading Jeff's Bio and logging on to Garcia Nation.com! I hope you join us in supporting the next great San Francisco QB.
