BLACK HAWK crew saved the life of a U.S. Special Forces soldier in Afghanistan March 29 after he was hit during an ambush with pro Taliban forces.
"Dustoff 34," of the 126th Medical Company (Air Ambulance), from the Nevada and California Army National Guard, launched immediately for the ambush site.
The flight was accompanied by a helicopter gunship "Widow Maker 01," and a UH-60L BLACK HAWK, "Stone Cold 36," which was loaded with a Special Forces Quick Reaction Force security team.
The MEDEVAC crew led the flight to the ambush location. Widow Maker 01 cleared the area, and Stone Cold 36 landed to unload the security team.
The crew of Dustoff 34 took patient aboard and departed back to Kandahar. During the 40-minute return flight to the field medical hospital the crew provided continuous Advanced Trauma Life Support en route.
The result was the survival of a US Special Forces Soldier.

ICE is the acronym for the Homeland Security Department's newly-formed Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The Bureau has deployed BLACK HAWK helicopters to the New York City metropolitan area to patrol local airspace recently restricted by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
