Patrick Roy Named ZHL Player of the Week

Bristol, CT-

ZHL Commissioner Audet has named Columbia 8-Balls goaltender Patrick Roy as the player of the week.  Roy, 37, went 5-0-0 over the past week, helping to fuel the 8-Balls into the seventh playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.  "It his a great honor to be named ZHL player of the week, especially with so many talented players that could have been named", said Roy in his press conference.  The runners up for player of the week were Teemu Selanne of the Hartford Whalers, Jaromir Jagr of the Quebec Nordiques, and Rod Brind'Amour of the Montreal Canadiens.

"We hope to really make an impact on the playoffs this season, after the last season's first round exit, I'd love to make it to the semis", said Roy.  So far this season, Roy has remained among the top ten in the league.  This is Roy's first induction as a player of the week. 

 

 

 
 

Blockbuster Deal in The Northeast

It was announced this evening that a blockbuster trade has taken place between the Woodbury Storm and the Quebec Nordiques.  The Nordiques sent Right Wing, Jaromir Jagr and Goaltender, Evgeny Nabakov to the Storm for Left Wing, Pavol Demtira.

Jagr, 32, has played for Winnipeg, Brooklyn, Columbia, and Quebec this season and has still managed a point per game.  Nabakov, 26, has spent the entire season with the Nordiques, backing up both Trevor Kidd and Roman Turek. 

Demitra, 28, was the longest standing member of the Storm until this deal.  He holds the ZHL record for goals scored by a left wing (68) which he set in the 2000-2001 season.

Storm Announce Release of Tibbetts

Woodbury, CT-

The Woodbury Storm have announced the release of Right Wing, Billy Tibbetts today.  Tibbetts was released after he was arrested by Woodbury police for attempting to lure young boys with candy, back to his appartment.  Officer Haywood Jablowme was on the scene and had this to say about what happened.  "When we approached Mr Tibbetts, he attacked us with a BB Gun, but there was one problem, it was not loaded" 

When Tibbetts released the gun wasn't loaded, he attempted to attack officers with snowballs.  Tibbetts was wrestled to the ground and taken into custody.  The FOX network has contacted Woodbury police and the video tapes will be featured on an episode of "Cops" in March.  Tibbetts is currently being held at the Soap Drop Federal Penitentiary and will be arrained on February 13th.

 
 

Northstars Clinch Playoff Spot

Minneapolis, MN-

Fort he fourth consequetive season, the Northstars have clinched a playoff berth.  The Northstars, with a 42-19-3 record are right now the third best team in the league, behind the Hartford Whalers and Montreal Canadiens.
