Rey's Awards

From representing his native country as one of the premiere youth baseball players all the way to his gold glove series, Rey Ordonez has been something to watch. This page features many of his accomplishments and those yet to come.




Amatuer Rookie Baseball Player of the Year: 1990 in Cuba

Won Gold Medal while representing Cuba Youth team in 1992

In 1993 he was defected at the end of a national baseball game in NY, and then went on the minor leagues.

Debueted in the major leagues on April 1, 1996

Hit safely in 14 straight games in 1996

Hit his first career homerun on September 19, 1996

Won the Rawlings National League Gold Glove in 1997

Won his second consectutive Rawlings National League Gold Glove in 1998

Hit first career Grand Slam September 18, 1999

Won his third consectutive Rawlings National League Gold Glove in 1999

In 2001, Ordonez hit a career high three homeruns

Rey currently holds the National League record for most consecutive games without an error by a shortstop, 101.

Rey triples his career homerun total in 2001, hitting three on the road.
