2003 Season

April

4/29: Rey is 1-4 with an rbi (20) and double (10). He is first among Major League shortstops in doubles and second only to Alex Rodriguez in rbis.

4/27: Rey is 2-4 with two doubles and an rbi, setting his total in rbis and doubles at nineteen and nine, respectively. He continues to bat over the .300 mark, in his best offensive April.

4/26: Rey Ordonez collects two hits and two rbis, contributing to a Tampa Bay win.

4/18: Rey Ordonez hits his third homerun in sixteen games. In 2001 he hit three in 149 games. He goes 2-4 with two rbis and a run.

4/16: Rey Ordonez hits his second homerun of the season in addition to two rbis.

4/12: Rey is 2-4 against the Yankees with an rbi and a stellar defensive play.

4/02: Rey Ordonez is hot, going 3-8 with four rbis, a double, and even a homerun. Ordonez adds impressive defense in the Devil Rays' defeat.

4/01: Ordonez debuets as a Tampa Devil Ray, striking out and grounding into a double play in two at bats as well as walking.


2002 Season

12/15: The Mets trade Rey Ordonez to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in return for two players to be named later. The Mets will take on more than half of his six million dollar plus contract. Ordonez becomes a free agent after 2003.

9/28: Ordonez backs off comments made a day earlier and says "I said that because it's been a long year. It's been frustrating for everybody. It's not like every fan is stupid. It's just some of them. I'm not upset about the booing. I'm upset when it gets personal. They say things about me right near my family at the stadium."

9/27: In a frustrated, media rant, Ordonez releases a statement in which he says he no longer wants to play in New York and adds that "The fans here are too stupid. You have to play perfect every game. You can't make an error. You can't go 0-for-4. Are we like (expletive) machines?"

8/17: For the second time this week, Ordonez bats second and is credited with breaking up a perfect game with his walk in the sixth.

8/3: In the first game of the double header, Ordonez went an astounding 4-4 with a double and three singles, scoring one run. He raised his average ten points and his on base percentage nearly fifteen as he worked two walks in the second game, getting on base six times between both games.

7/31: Tying his career average of four rbis in one game reached twice before and once this season, Ordonez goes 2-2 with two doubles before being taken out after being plunked on the back with a pitch by Astros' pitcher Jim Mann who was ejected on the play. Ordonez was available to play Thursday.

7/26: Early on, Ordonez flashes his leather with three well done defensive gems. After going 0-3, Rey gets aboard via a single in the ninth inning and becomes the winning run when Mo Vaughn drives him in to top the Reds 3-2.

7/20: Ordonez has a solid game going 1-4, a bunt single driving in a run to put the Mets on top of the Reds at the time. With a few flashy defensive plays, Ordonez looked, well, like Ordonez.

7/17: Rey goes 2-4 with an rbi as the Mets beat the Expos 9-5.

7/07: Rey is taken out of the game after fouling a ball off his left foot. He leaves after going 1-3 with his 16th double of the year.

7/04: Rey gets on base three times, going 2-4 with a double and two runs.

6/25: Ordonez hits three singles, 3-4, with a run and an rbi with solid defense as the Mets top the Braves 7-3.

6/21: At a game I attended, Ordonez went 1-3 with a run scoring single in the bottom of the second to help the Mets defeat the Royals 4-3.

6/15: Ordonez goes 2-4 with a double, a triple, and 3 rbis to help boost the Mets to a 8-0 win over the Yankees. He also committs his 13th error of the season.

6/08: Though 0-2, Ordonez makes two spectacular defensive plays, rivaling opposing shortstop Omar Vizquel as the Mets beat the Indians 8-6.

6/06: Rey goes 2-3 with a run, upping his average to .244 and provides two pivotal defensive plays in the Mets' loss to the Braves.

6/05: Rey commits his twelth error of the season but hits his eleventh double of the season.

6/01:Rey commits his eleventh error of the season, however he goes 1-3 and collects another two rbis.

5/31: Ordonez has one of the best nights of his career, going 3-5, missing just the triple in the cycle as he hits a single, a double, a homerun, and collects 4 rbis to propell the Mets to a 6-5 win.

5/29: Ordonez goes 1/4 with a run in the Mets' 4-3 win over the Phillies.

5/28: Ordonez puts the Mets on the board early with an rbi single, going 1-4 with outstanding defense despite a loss.

5/24: Ordonez goes 1-3 with a walk and an RBI, and turns some nice double plays in the Mets' 5-4 10 inning victory.

5/22:Ordonez goes 2-4 in the Mets' 5-2 loss and due to poor baserunning by teammates, he is robbed of an rbi.

5/19: Ordonez goes 1-3 with his thirteenth rbi and adds sparkling defense, despite the Mets' 4-3 loss.

5/18:Ordonez goes hitless, dropping his average to .219 but his solid defense contributes to the Mets' 5-2 win over the Padres.

5/17: Ordonez goes 1-5 with two rbis and two runs scored in the Mets' 13-4 win over the Padres.

5/14: Ordonez starts with a diving stop to his left what turns out to be an essential double play.

5/12: Ordonez committs his 9th error of the season after completing a fine play with Roberto Alomar

5/11: Ordonez is scratched from the line up and skips out on fan photo day

5/9: Errors smerrors! Ordonez contributes with great defense

5/8: Rey doubles in Mets' loss

5/7: Ordonez returns to the line up after pulling his oblique muscle.
