The Trial

Chapter One-Discoveries

“Where the hell were you last night, Rod?” Rita, Rod’s wife of two years, asked him as he came through the door. She had her arms crossed over her chest and as Rod knew from experience, that was not a good sign. He gazed at Rita, noting how beautiful she still was. Her dark brown hair fell over her shoulders and her green eyes flashed with anger, but she was still beautiful.
Rod thought fast, knowing that his life depended on it. Rita, who just happens to be a trained assassin, doesn’t have a lot of control over her emotions when it comes to her personal life. She had already broke Rod’s arm once for lying to her and Rod didn’t really want to repeat that episode of his life. So taking a deep breathe, he told her.
“I was at Celeste’s apartment. Visiting the kids.” I don’t know why she’s so angry, Rod thought. I visit the kids every week. Rita knows that. Rod stood in the hallway, looking at his wife while he wondered about her reaction. After a minute of silence and not coming up with an answer to his question, Rod looked into Rita’s eyes.
Rita was shaking with the effort of holding back her tears. Rod knew how much she wanted kids, but her career forbade it. She has always regretted her choice of career. Still, she was never bothered by my visits to the kids before, thought Rod. He moved closer and took Rita in his arms and as he did, she began to cry.
Rod picked his wife up and carried her to the couch and began tried to console her. “Rita? What’s the matter, honey?” he asked. “Why are you crying? Did I do something wrong?” Rita shook her head no. “Then what is it?” Se seemed scared for some reason and Rod knew for certain that she was not scared of anything.
Rita drew a shaky breather and leaned forward and hugged her husband. “Rod,” she said in a soft voice. ”I’m pregnant.”

The computer hacker stroked his short goatee as he planned out his next move. He had been sitting at his computer all day and the problem he was facing just got more difficult with each passing moment. “This firewall is tougher than I originally thought it would be,” he said to himself. “What the hell am I going to do now? I’m running out of ideas.” He twirled around in his chair as the voice of his older sister echoed into the room.
“Robert, you are a jackass.” Sandra said. She walked over to his bean bag and gracefully lowered herself down onto it. At 5’7” 110 pounds,, with wavy red hair, crystal blue eyes, and a figure most woman would gladly sell their souls to the devil for, she was the fantasy of every guy at her school. She knew she was pretty which gave her an arrogance that made every girl want to slap her. “Even I know the answer to that question.” She had a smirk on her face which aggravated Robert even more than her calling him a jackass did.
With an enormous effort, Robert suppressed his irritation. “Then what, dear sister is the answer? And please without your usual smugness.” He asked. Robert was starting to get a headache on top of everything else.
“Well, since you asked so nicely, I’ll tell you.” Sandra flashed one of her disarming smiles and Robert began to relax a little. “it’s really quite simple. Give the program something to distract itself while you slip behind it and grab what you need. Well, I’ve got to go. I have a date tonight.” She stood up and walked to the door.
“But you’re grounded! How are you going to get out?” Robert was shocked. His sister never disobeyed an order from their parents. He had a bad feeling in his got when Sandra turned to look at him and gave him another smile.
“That’s where you come in. Tell Mom and Dad that I’m on my period and that I do not want to be disturbed. Bye, little brother. See you tomorrow.” With that, she walked out his room, leaving Robert without his thoughts.
        “Bye, big sister. And thanks.”

Kelly sat in the passenger seat of her boyfriend’s car, anxiously awaiting her boyfriend, Trevor. He had went into the store over an hour ago and she was starting to get impatient. “What’s taking him so long,” she asked her small Pomeranian puppy, Dee Jay. “He only went in there to get some chips and a couple of sodas.” Kelly blew out an exasperated breather. “Men.”
Dee Jay growled in accent and began to nibble on Kelly’s wrist. “Kelly looked down at her pet and smiled. “You want to play, you little fluff ball?” she asked. Dee Jay wagged his tail and barked. “All right then. You asked for it.” Kelly grabbed Dee Jay’s rubber bone and let him get a hold of one end with his teeth. Then she grabbed the other end and they began a game of tug-a-war. They were so into on the game, neither one of them noticed the figure that snuck up to the window.
“BOO!” Yelled the figure as he reached inside the open window to grab Kelly, who promptly fainted. Dee Jay on the other hand, celebrated his victory.
