What I loved about the Balent comics was the humor of the stories that went along with the fast-paced action. The brilliance of it was that we got to see Selina's thoughts as she went about planning her capers and carying them out. Another totally cool thing about the Jim Balen era was the covers. Each one had a hidden cat somewhere on the cover. It was an exciting challenge ever issue to search for that kitty. I found most of them, but not all, so well were they hidden. Speaking of Jim Balent again, the picture link that brought you here of Catwoman's face is one of his covers.
Something that I liked about this Catwoman was her brillance. She knew what she wanted, and she planned well going about getting it. Even when things went crazy wrong Selina was still able to come out of it on top, landing on her feet in the most cat-like manner possible. It was entertaining and well told. What other villianess that isn't quite a villianess has been able to earn her own title and hold on for so long with such great adventures?
Selena with her cats...I love her cats. That was something I missed in the later issues- the interaction between her and her cats. They were ditched after the earthquake, when everything there went crazy. | The cover from Catwoman 55, with the bat signal behind her...It's so anti-Bat. I love it! (Please note that I have nothing against the Dark Night, only that I love Catwoman so much more) | I stuck this one here because it reminds me of the standard Bat pics, with his cape blowing in the wind as he stands on a rooftop, brooding. Only here, it's Catwoman's hair blowing in the wind, and she's probably contemplating a felony. |
