WILCRICK SANDMAN - CROSSWAYS INDIAN QUEEN

"Minty was born in Wales, the year of 1992. She lived there as a ”wild pony” , to the year 1997/1998. She was then imported to Norway, where she has lived out all year with other horses unntil now. She has a very good pedigree, that is why she was imported to this country, to be a breeding mare. But that did not happen. They did to little work with her, she got to be ”rounder and rounder” as the time went by. Every year she lost the foal she carried, probably because she was to fat.

Because of that her owners wanted to put her down. That is why she ended up here, with me. I She is a really beautiful pony, special colour, which is very populare among the Welsh Mountain ponies.

She is done just to little with, she is neither ridden nor driven, but she has an incredible good head, and she always tries to do the best she can."

This is what Marianne, Minty`s owner have written about Minty on the Norwegian clicker list.

February 2001 I ended up having no company for Chia. I tried everything, with no luck, and as the last desperat attempt, I sent a mail to Marianne, on the clickerlist, and asked if she would be willing to borrow out her little pony for a few months, till I could send Chia to the pastures.

I`d borrowed out Chia myself, and unfortunately had to get her home a little earlier than planned. Luckily, and surprisingly, Marianne said yes. Minty lived only half an hour away from where Chia lived for the moment, so we desided we`d meet there, and let the horses get to know one another in a corral first. Good to get the screaming and kicking over with :).

When my mom and I arrived, Minty and Chia already met, and they seemed fine together. So we put them both on the trailer and went home.

The trip went all fine, we took it nice and easy, the roads being very icey. We went to a little stable where they should stay for about three months. I had another place for Chia closer to my home, but thatone was not available untill June.

I can only agree with Marianne`s words. Minty must be the most cooperative, positive little thing ever put its feet on this earth. She shows so clear signs of being treated bad, and still she almost jumps outta her skin to please us. She was already clicker trained, and she will do just anything for a little peace of treat……..

It is the sadest thing to see, when you get a little pony to your place, that you have to use the first two weeks to be allowed to approach the pony, withouth her running away. Two weeks to be allowed to touch her in the corral…to see her stand glued into the wall when you try to get to know her in her stall….to see that everything you do, how careful you try to be, makes the pony tense up to a hard ball….

And it is the warmest thing when the same pony after a few weeks nickers when she sees you, even though she still not is to trustful in everything you do around her.

Minty stayed three months…but when she left, we had made an agreement, that Minty should come back to us after summer pasture, and stay with us the whole winter, to keep Chia company, in her new stable……

Minty returned to us 1. august 2001. She had been out in a pasture all summer, and I was shocked to see her…..that pony really knows how to eat! I`m sure if you gave her a push, she`d roll rather far away….:)

She must have been so disappointed coming down to us, with just a trace of grass left :). But that was good for her, and she lost weight rather fast.

We had to catch up and get to know one another again, but this time it went faster than before summer. She got her time to be familiare with the new areas, and slowly we started to work with her again.

This time, almost from the start, we got an 11 year old girl, Helèn, to help us a little. Helèn comes two days a week spending time with Minty.

*Spring 2002 Minty went home to live with her owner.*
