My thoughts before a big race are usually pretty simple. I tell myself: "Get out of the blocks, run your race, stay relaxed. If you run your race, you'll win....Channel your energy. Focus."

The Cougars Girls' track team was off to a rough start this year with the track being nothing more than a large sand box.  Due to this inconvience, the track team has unfortunately been bussed to Valley. "We're going to be treading water until we get our track established," said Langer. Erin Stannard is hoping to be a strong force this season. Stannard is the Shoreline Conference 100 and 200 meter champion. She also helped the cougars 4x100 relay team win their third straight SLC title. HK's 4x100 will have a new look this season with senior  twin sisters Karissa Casteran, Kym Casteran, and little sister Tina Casteran help Stannard defend the title. Freshmen Taryn Allegra and Chermier Cokely will add some depth to the sprints. Senior Erin Bailey will garner points in the long jump, triple jump, and high jump. Sophmore Lisa Judd will also be a factor in  the high jump. H-K hurdling hopefuls include junior Amanda Deming and sophomore Tina Grice.

The Cougars boys' team will be led by Shoreline Conference cross country champion and outdoor 5000-meter champion, senior Matt Grice. Grice will be joined by All-Shoreline cross country runners, senior Andrew Breck and Kevin Gladwin. "We've got some distance runners from cross country and indoor," said long-time Cougars coach Dupuis. "We're hoping they can also do well in outdoor this spring." H-K's sprinting hopes rest on the shoulders of seniors Jaime Addorisio, Mike Kelly, and John Rider. They, along with junior Evan Gross, captured the Class S State indoor 4x400-meter relay title this past winter. Gross was also a silver medlaist in the Class S 300-meter hurdles. Senior Mike Boule (jumps, javelin), senior Josh Neptin (weights), junior Matt Goldblatt (distance) and junior Andrew Moyer (distance) will also look to win points this spring.
