Philosophy In every course offered by the English Department, the general objectives are as follows: 1. to improve each student's reaing, writing, viewing, listening, and speaking abilities. a. to read with understanding, with critical insight, and with appreciation for the printed word, b. to write with clarity and appropriateness, c. to view and to listen with comprehension and open-mindedness, and d. to speak knowledgeably and confidently. 2. to encourage each student to function at the fullest of his/her potential and with consideration for his/her future plans.
