TABLE OF CONTENTS OF GALLERY 1

(1) Free hand sketch of a still life consisting of bottles, a vase, and two pitchers.
Date: Begun in 1997 and primarily worked on in 1997. Put the finishing
touches on it this year.
Size: 18" x 24"
Medium: pencil

(2) A sketch of a tree outside of our school.
Date: mid-November of 2000.
Size: 9" x 12"
Medium: pencil

(3) A still life with a copper vase, an oil can, and a metal bowl. These objects were placed on a white cloth drapery background. This piece was a great learning experience for me, as I had never previously had success with drawing drapery. By observing the shapes rather than the specific folds and wrinkles, I had more success than in the past.
Date: December 2000.
Size: 12" x 18"
Medium: pencil

(4) A sketch of a chair from a photograph in an Architectural Digest magazine.
Date: November/December 2000.
Size: 9" x 11"
Medium: pencil

(5) Finished piece of a spooky door opening with a creature behind it. This is my favorite piece because it is my most creative work and came totally from my head. I was inspired by some masks I found in the metal shop which are found on the doorway, above the doorway, and at the edge of the doorway. This piece was the most fun because I added each aspect of it from my head and didn't copy or sketch anything, except the masks.
Date: October-November 2000
Size: 12" x 18"
Media: pencil, charcoal, conte pencils, pastels,

(6) A finished rendering of train wheel section. It was a photograph of a train profile, and I cropped out an area to draw. I reversed some of the light and dark regions to make it stand out more.
Date: January 2001
Size: 9" x 9"
Medium: pencil

(7) A quick sketch of a small manual pencil sharpener.
Date: January 2001
Size: 8.5" x 11"
Medium: pencil

(8) A finished pen-&-ink drawing from a photograph of churches. I was very happy with this piece as it shows my love for pen & inks. I was very happy with the proportionality and line use. I was a little unhappy with how my sky came out around the steeples. I tried to give the feeling of clouds with black watercolor, but did not do as good a job as I would have liked to around the lower left steeple.
Date: December 2000
Size: 9" x 12"
Media: pencil, and pen-&-ink, and watercolor

(9) Sketch of my hand by redefining over and over. I have often times had some trouble staying loose with my work. I want my work to look very detailed and have few stray lines. This was a good piece for me in the way I stayed loose with it.
Date: October 2000
Size: 8.5" x 11"
Medium: pencil

(10) Small Rendering of an Abercrombie and Fitch cologne bottle.
Date: October 2000
Size: 8.5" x 11"
Medium: pencil

(11) An enlargement of a couple of thumbtacks. There is an initial rough sketch and a shaded sketch.
Date: October 2000
Size: 8.5" x 11"
Medium: pencil

(12) A very loose sketch of an interior space in our school. It is the "catwalk" that connects the two buildings that compose our school. Again, like my hand sketch, it is a good piece for me because I was able to stay loose in my work.
Date: December 2000
Size: 8.5" x 11"
Medium: sharpy marker

(13) Sketch of a pair of needle-nose pliers.
Date: December 2000
Size: 8.5" x 11"
Medium: pencil

(14) A finished rendering of a copper vase-like container. It is supposed to give the feeling of a genie's lamp.
Date: November 2000
Size: 8.5" x 11"
Medium: pencil Tyson M. Hosmer, Class of 2001
