The Toth Tarot Deck

Welcome to the world of the Tarot Cards!

In this section I will be covering my deck of choice, The Toth Deck, which was designed by Aleister Crowley and painted by Lady Frieda Harris. This is a beautifuly designed deck, which contains Egyptian, Grecian, Eastern, Medieval and Christian symbols.

A Breif History of the Tarot Cards

Historians have suggested that "Tarot" comes from the ancient Egyptian word, "Ta-rosh", meaning "the royal way"; others have suggested its an anagram of the Latin word, "rota", meaning "wheel"-the cards symbolizing the circle of life from birth to death.

Some have seen in it a corruption of the name "Toth", the ancient Egyptain God of Magick or Wisdom; an attempt to reaffirm the legend that the cards were from the Hungarian Gypsy word, "tar", meaning a deck of cards, which in turn derived from Sanskrit, "taru".

The Tarot Cards, which ever deck you chose to learn from, is a visual map of consciousness and a symbolic system that offers insight into professional, personal, and spiritual development of each induvidual. Each card represents its own meaning, and you should open up yourself to the card, letting it "speak to you".

You should keep your cards dry and clean, I keep mine in a decorate box. You can wrap them in a fancy hankerchief, or other material. When you first buy a deck, try to shuffle them, and look through them. Letting the cards absorbe some of your energy. Dont let anyone touch your cards, unless your doing a reading for them. The reason for this is because you want the cards to be attunde to your energy and the person your doing a reading for, you want the reading to be as accurate as possible.

Each deck consists of 78 cards. The deck is split into 2 groups, The Major Arcana (22 Trump Cards) and the Minor Arcana (56 Suit Cards) Which run from Ace-10, and have a King, Queen, Prince, and Princess. On the following pages you will see the pictures of these cards, they are a beautiful deck. Some people do not need any books or resorces to divine them, but you can attain books about these cards and others from your local book store. One book i suggest is The Tarot Handbook by Angeles Arrien. Goddess Bless all of you! Beltane Moon
