Greetings Class of '91. By now many of you have had the opportunity to visit the Class Web Page. I wanted to start this edition with a thank you to Tim Castle who has done an incredible job with the page. Speaking of Tim, he and Sandy welcomed Carolyn Amanda to the Class on June 24th, congrats Tim & Sandy (I guess web page creation is not his only hobby).
The number of '91'ers at CGA is increasing. This summer saw the addition of Jim Potter (EE Instructor), Tim Cummins (who is attending UConn), Greg Wisener (OPS Eagle), and Pat Knowles (who is doing great!). Hopefully this addition will translate into greater attendance at the Coast Guard Academy Rugby Club matches this fall (wishful thinking).
Sue Blood wrote (from Chase Hall):
"Molly (Mattson) Kammerer (I would
like to buy a vowel) had a huge lobster fest at her folks' summer home
in Cape Cod. I came with my fiancé Matt (CGA '93). Molly
was there with her husband Carl (boyfriend was busy) and 2 daughters, Rachel
(4) and Rebecca (3). Molly is expecting a third due in November.
Karin Johnson, who is now a graphic designer, drove down from Vermont.
Chelle (Whitmore) Johnson also came with her son Ehren (2). Chelle
lives in Monterey, CA, where her husband Kirk is attending Naval Postgraduate
School. She is currently taking some time off from the ole CG to
take care of their son and plans to return in the spring of 1999.
I also got to see Melissa (Griffin) Rivera who is at Air Station Elizabeth
City with her husband Epy and beautiful daughter Olivia."
Thanks Sue! I mentioned in the last edition that I heard from Pat Downey. Since the last edition he has celebrated the birth of his baby boy - Adres Santiago (those of you familiar with Polish accordion literature will recognize the name). Pat managed to find an excellent job in San Diego. Things are definitely going well for Pat.
Bill Lane sent an e-mail after returning from his first patrol as OPS onboard CGC GALLATIN. The Aircraft Commander for the AVDET was none other than Tim Schang. When they got to Grand Cayman for MPB they ran into "Handsome" Jack Horner who was flying his Falcon around. In addition to silencing their cold beverage alarms, and checking out the scenery, Tim took the Grand Cayman Police Department on a thrill ride in Tupperwolf. It is my understanding that they have requested Tim return as the CGLO.
E.J. Marohn wrote from the University of Washington where he is in the Living Marine Resource Management program (the dead marine resource program was just too difficult to get accepted to). E.J. loves the fact that he and Christine get to spend a lot more time with their 2 yr old daughter, Meaghan Grace. E.J. heard from Dean Matty who is working at MLCLANT. Apparently, Dean is engaged. There is no wedding date yet, however, hopefully Dean will write and provide details.
I saw Jamie "Schleb" Roth in Rockport, MA, over the 4th of July. Jamie is EO of a '210 in Miami. He is doing great and continues to entertain the crowds with stories that could only happen to Schleb.
It appears that the offer of the autographed picture of our Class Advisor was not enough incentive so I will up the ante. I am offering a monetary reward to any member of the Class who can provide the whereabouts (contact info mandatory) of one Hans "Meatball" Lundin. Let's see how well this incentive works.
Take care and expect a Class mailing this fall.
