Irene Horgan, TCRG, ADCRG

Miss Irene is a certified Irish step dance teacher & judge of Irish dance. She has judged the NAFC Junior & Senior Championship Belts and the Eastern States Oireachtas. Irene is an active member of the New England Region Irish Dance Teachers' Association and the North American Feis Commission.
Irene choreographed the Irish play "Dancing at Lughnasa" by Brian Friel at Seven Angels Theater. She is an active member of the Society of Dance History Scholars. Under her dedicated instruction, Horgan Academy students have qualified for the World Championships of Irish Dancing. Miss Irene encourages each student to practice and excel.

Maureen Horgan, TMRF

Miss Maureen is a certified Irish Ceili Dance teacher. She is an active member of the New England Region Irish Dance Teachers Association and the North American Feis Commission.
Miss Maureen encourages team work and cooperation through ceili dancing.

Founder: Mrs. Maura Horgan

Mrs. Horgan excelled in traditional Irish Dance in her native County Leitrim, Ireland. She served as Feis Secretary for all Horgan Academy sponsored feiseanna and was a member of the North American Feis Commission. She hosted the "Horgan's Irish Hour" on WATR-1320 AM radio. She was honored as Naugatuck's Irish Mayor for St. Patrick's Day 1999 and presented with an Offical Citation from the State of Connecticut General Assembly in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the community and her status as an exemplary role model of Irish heritage and culture. In 1999, Mrs. Horgan was presented with a message from the President of Ireland. The message read in part as follows:
"Dance has always held a special place in the culture of Ireland and through the tireless efforts of people like Maura, it has also played a key role in fostering a sense of community among Irish people abroad. We can be reassured that the promotion of Irish culture is in very good hands."
Maura Horgan ensured that Irish traditions have been passed on to each and every Horgan Academy dancer.

The Horgan Academy offers a complete curriculum of classes. Horgan Academy dancers compete in local, regional, national, and international competitons.
Applications are currently being accepted for new students to enroll for the 2011-2012 dance season.
