Hi and welcome to the homepage of Johnson Memorial Teen Volunteers. Johnson Memorial Hospital is a hospital located on top of a hill in the suburbs of Connecticut. This is our first attempt at making a homepage and we are very excited to be online. But please note this site will always be changing and we are always under construction!

The volunteers here at the hospital are made up of teens and adults. Most teens are more active during the summer while out of school, but we volunteer all year. The teen volunteers are always busy helping out in many ways in many different Hospital departments.

TVAC stands for Teen Volunteer Action Council. It is like a student council in a school but it is for the Hospital. TVAC meets the second Thursday of every month and we have dinner while we talk about business. TVAC helps out the hospital by raising money and donating special items or equipment to various departments in the hospital. Last year TVAC donated 100 "Patches the Prairie Dog" puppets to the Pediatric Department. Patches is the Pediatric Department mascot. We also worked hard and raised enough money to donate a 25 inch color television/VCR/Radio on a stand. The puppets went out to the young children who came into the Pediatric Department. This year the TVAC is planning to give the Pediatric Department 100 more pupets and a video library with children's videos and a case. TVAC raises their money in many ways while having fun and working as a team. Right now TVAC is having a T-Shirt sale and we are selling T-shirts and other apparel printed with JMH on them! TVAC sold first aid kits to many people to keep in their cars or other places for safety. TVAC also earned money is by selling Munson's candy at Easter and Christmas as well as having a book fair twice a year and anything else we decide on as a group.

Once a year the Hospital pays tribute to the teen volunteers at the Teen Volunteer Recognition dinner. TVAC members get to plan the entertainment and food for this event. There are invitations sent out to all the teen volunteers and they are allowed to bring two guests. At this event there is an award ceremony and always something good to eat. During this ceremony all the volunteers get recognized for all the help they provide. A lot of the Hospital Managers attend and show their support and appreciation. After that everyone gets to eat ice cream from a big ice cream sundae bar! There are many pictures that are taken at this event and it is very memorable for everyone who attends.

At this years recognition that was held on September 10, 1998 We did things a little different. We had a sit down dinner and we made our own slide show for our own entertainment, which was a huge success. All the volunteers had their pictures taken with their awards with Johnson Memorial Hospital's President, Mr. Alfred A. Lerz. It was a fun and memorable evening for everyone!
