Larry Mapes was, and still is, the oldest kart driver we have on a regular bases. Not only is he the oldest, but he's also one of the fastest. Larry has been racing at River City since it opened, and has won 5 track championships there. He has won the 335 pound minimum weight Stock Briggs & Stratton track championship the first four years of racing. This making him the most winningest driver at the track. He was finally beat out of the championship in 1998 by his son Joe. But in 1999 Larry regained his winning ways, taking the track championship in the 335 lb class yet again. Some other people that ran strong in the 335 lb. class in his dynasty were Dan Weiss, Fred Hasty, Bill Trask, Gene Hergenreder, Randy Gallagher, Keith Trask, Mike Engelhardt, and his son Joe Mapes.
