Joe started racing karts in 1994 with most of the rest of the people at River City. He had always been extremely fast, but had never come on a regular basis to win a championship. Something must have changed for him in 1998, because he came nearly every week, and dominated almost every single time he hit the track. He is the fastest adult to touch River City in a stock Briggs. In 1999 Joe continued in his winning ways, totally dominating the 360 lb. class, and also taking top honors in the newly established 345 lb. class. Some other top contenders in Joe's time were Larry Mapes, Keith Trask, Tyler Yaroch making a strong end of the year run in 1998, Chris Trinklein, Greg Dean, Mike Engelhardt, and Mark Satkowiak.
