How Your Skin's Works'

Did you know that your skin is the largest organ in your body?

It serves countless essential functions and performs various roles.
The skin is a living tissue. It protects your internal organs.
It lets your body breathe. It helps you resist bacteria and infection.

Your skin is made up of two main layers, namely the epidermis and the dermis.

1. The epidermis is the top layer of skin and the one you can actually see. It protects your body from invasion and infection and helps to seal in moisture. It's made up of several layers of living cells, which are in turn, covered by sheets of dead cells. It's constantly growing, with new cells being produced at its base. They die quickly, and are pushed up to the surface by the arrival of new ones.

2. The dermis is the layer that lies under the epidermis, and it is made up entirely of living cells. It consists of bundles of tough fibres which makes your skin strong, firm and elastic. There are also blood vessels, which feed vital nutrients to these areas. Unlike the epidermis, which can usually repair itself and make itself as good as new, the dermis will be permanently damaged by injury. The dermis also contains sebaceous glands. These are tiny organs, which usually open into hair follicles on the surface of your skin. They produce an oily secretion, called sebum, which is your skin's natural lubricant. The sebaceous glands trated on the scalp and face, particularly around the nose, cheeks, chin and forehead. This is why these are the most oily areas of your skin.

Tips to Great Skin

A good routine would typically comprise 3 steps

1.Cleanse

Cleanse your face with a proper pH-balanced cleanser, and massage for 1-2 minutes before rinsing
thoroughly. There are different types of cleansers, which come as gels, liquids or solid bars, to suit your needs and preferences.

2. Tone

Tone with a toning product to kill bacteria and remove any residual makeup.
Natural remedies such as tea tree oil and witch hazel also help as antiseptics and astringents

3. Exfoliate

Exfoliate with AHA/BHA products, such as scrubs, creams and masques to slough off dead skin cells and promote cell renewal. In addition to keeping your face clean, you should resist the urge to pick at blemishes. Try using pore strips to remove debris in pores. If you wear make-up, use a proper makeup remover and don't go to bed without cleaning your face. Avoid using makeup and skincare products that may aggravate pore clogging. For instance, applying a cream that is too rich on already-oily skin may lead to the accumulation of residue inside the pores. If you exercise regularly, make it a habit to cleanse your face after every workout. Proper knowledge of your skin type and good skincare practices will ensure that your pores remain relatively clear and your skin free of blackheads and pimple breakouts.
