Data Communication

I. Course Description

        This course covers the basic principles and issues involved in this field of data communication. An introduction to data communications, computer networks, protocols, and distributed processing as well as relevant standards and underlying theories are conversant. Topics include communication codes, transmission methods (analog and digital), interfacing (such as RS-232C), error detection and correction, communication protocols (such as TCP\IP), communication architectures (such as the OSI Reference Model), switching methods, and networks types. Local Area network and inter network technologies are studied. Students will design and implement data communications and network-based software.
