CPL Announces Call of Duty Tournament ][ Posted on February 9 . 2004
The CPL announced that it has added Call of Duty, as an official tournament game for the Extreme World Championships. This tournament will offer $50,000 in cash prizes sponsored by the Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor with HT Technology Extreme Edition. The Call of Duty tournament will use a 6 versus 6 team format with a maximum of 32 teams allowed; and will be hosted at the Cyberathlete® Extreme World Championships 2004, taking place July 28 to August 1, 2004 in the brand new Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas. Call of Duty is rated "Teen" by the ESRB, therefore the CPL will allow 16 year olds to register for the tournament with signed parental consent forms.
The CPL has already confirmed four main tournaments for the Extreme World Championships with a total of $250,000 in cash prizes. The confirmed tournaments are: $100,000 Half-Life Counter-Strike, $50,000 Battlefield 1942, $50,000 Halo|PC and $50,000 Call of Duty. The Extreme Championships will also include a large BYOC area that will host over 4,000 computers, a large exhibition area with additional tournaments, a tournament stage as part of the Intel Exhibition Pavilion and more.
