Have you ever noticed that some of the worst things happen to you when you're having a good day? That's what happened to me today. It was a wonderful day at work. My supervisor wasn't there; I got my work done in record time; and there weren't any clients bothering me. However, this is where my luck ended. No sooner than I step out my office door, the sky deemed it necessary to pour all its troubles onto my head. Of course, the weather man said nothing about rain, which meant that I had to run for the bus in the rain without an umbrella. With me running in the rain, my heel broke, sending me crashing to the ground at the precise moment that my bus rolled past me and completely splashed me with water.

Definitely not a good ending to a wonderful day...

By the time that I walked through the front door of my house, I was cold, wet, and definitely unhappy. A quiet meow reached my ears and the feeling of fur wrapping around my ankles brought my attention to my cat, Sian. I picked her up and scratched her behind the ears, crooning soft words to her and feeling my spirits lift a little as she purred and licked my fingers contentedly. I limped slowly into the bathroom, talking to Sian softly the entire time. I set her on the toilet seat and peeled myself out of my wet clothes. I leaned over and turned the shower on, making sure that it wasn't too hot, but hot enough to warm me up. I stepped under the warm spray and closed my eyes in bliss as the water beat a path across my shoulders, back and neck. After what seemed like forever, I emerged feeling like a million bucks. I grabbed a fluffy towel from off the rack, wrapped it around my body, and followed Sian out of the bathroom and into the bedroom. I let the towel drop as I stood in front of my dresser.

"What do you think? Should I go for the silk or should I go for the flannel?" I held up each article in a hand and waited for her opinion. She sniffed my ankles for a few minutes, before she reached up and put her paws on my left calf and meowed softly. I smiled.

"Okay then, silk it is." I slip the nightgown over my head and shiver as it touches my skin lightly, falling down to about mid-thigh. I turn out the lights and go about lighting a few candles, desiring the soft effect that only candles can bring. Once I was done, I went and stood in front of the balcony door, gazing out into the night. While I had been in the shower, the rain grew progressively worse until it was a raging thunderstorm.

"Haven't seen rain like this in a while, huh?" I said absently. I was greeted with silence. I looked around and saw Sian making her way out the door, tail swinging slightly as she left. I chuckled softly and turned my attention back to the door. As I was gazing across my backyard, a flash of lightening illuminated the grounds and wrung a gasp from my throat. For a split second, I thought I saw the figure of a person standing under the balcony and looking up into the room. I took a reflective step back. Must have just been my imagination. Yeah, that’s it. I’m sleepy. Maybe if I go to sleep then everything will be okay. I went about the business of blowing out the candles and crawled between the sheets, goose bumps rising as the cool silk came into close contact with my warm skin. I hugged my pillow in a light grasp and was soon fast asleep. The figure outside completely forgotten...

Scratch....scratch....scratch....creeeeeaaaaaaakkkkkk.......

I came awake slowly as the sound of branches scratching the balcony reached my ears. However, what I wasn't prepared for was my balcony door being open, letting in tons of cold air and lots of rain. I shivered and grumbled darkly as I slid out of bed and padded to the door and closing it with a click of finality. I was about to turn around when I felt that strange feeling that I get when I know there is another person in the room. I turn around quickly, the hem of my gown swirling around my thighs. No one was there. Imagination is really acting crazy. The sooner I get back into bed, the quicker I can forget this. I go to turn around, when a cool but firm hand grasps my wrist. I try to turn and scream, but my arm was twisted slightly behind my back and I am brought against a hard male chest.

"Ssshhh," the voice whispers into my ear. "I'm not going to hurt you. I just...wanted to see you up close."

"Could have used the front door. That's what most people do when they want to see me," I answered. I was rewarded with a dark chuckle and the pressure loosening slightly from my wrists.

"If I let you go, do you promise not to try and attack me?"

"No."

The pressure on my wrists didn’t lighten any more, but they didn’t tighten either.

"You always were a difficult one."

I let out a soft chuckle and would have replied, had it not been for the soft exhalation of air that brushed across my neck.

"You always put up a struggle. There's nothing better than a good struggle." His free hand ghosted over my bare arms and onto my shoulders, raising the hair as his hand moved. I shivered at his touch and he chuckled again. Before I knew what was happening, he spun me around in his arms and looked down at me with deep dark brown eyes. I gasped softly, entranced and almost hypnotized by their beauty. My eyes slide the rest of the way down his face, encountering a small, but broad nose and full lips that were curled ever so faintly into a smile. He brought his face close to mine, and for one dizzying second, I thought that he was going to kiss me. But instead, he placed his nose against the skin of my neck and inhaled deeply.

"You smell of warm vanilla and woman," he said, his low husky voice sending shivers from my spine to my toes and back up again. He brought his face level with mine and simply stared into my eyes. I wonder what he sees, I thought.

"I see a beautiful woman that I would love to kiss," he whispered across my lips. I licked them slowly and saw that he followed the movement of my tongue intently. I leaned up and pressed my lips softly against his. They were cool and soft, almost like the petals of some exotic flower. They parted slowly and the tip of his tongue touched mine almost shyly. I drew back and gazed at him in confusion.

"I can't believe that I'm doing this. I mean, I don't even know who you are or how you got in here. I just don't think..." He cupped the back of my neck and placed his other hand at the small of my back, bringing my body against his.

"Don't think...just feel." He crushed his lips against mine, his tongue pushing past my lips and sweeping into my mouth. I moaned softly under the onslaught of his lips, tongue reaching out to caress his as the kiss deepened. The hand at the small of my back began to move in small circles before spreading out to caress my back. I leaned into the touch, wanting, needing him to touch more. As if obeying my very thoughts, the hand on my back slipped down and under the hem of my nightgown, touching my skin lightly. He pulled back slightly and gazed at me with lust-hazed eyes.

"Like touching silk...I thought I was still touching your nightgown." I blushed deeply and ducked my head. Strong, but slim fingers grasped my chin in a light grip and tilted my head back up.

"No need to hide from me, little one. You are the embodiment of a goddess," he said, honesty ringing in his voice. I looked into his eyes and saw truth shining there. I felt the tears well up in my eyes, and they spilled out before I could stop them. He wiped them away with the pad of his thumb and lowered his head, licking a tear from my cheek. I closed my eyes as he licked my ear, tracing the outer shell with the tip of his tongue; his breath creating a cool sensation. He licked lightly across my neck, nipping the skin there gently. I moaned softly and wrapped an arm around his neck, pressing his lips closer to my skin. Again, he inhaled my scent, and exhaled his breath in a soft hiss. It was this hiss that was my undoing as his teeth sunk gently into my flesh. I let my head fall back as sensations ran through my body. It was like my blood was on fire and it heated every part of my body. Ever so faintly, I could smell the evidence of my arousal. Apparently, so could he as he lifted his head from my neck, a toothy grin on his face.

"Hmmm, it would appear that my goddess has become very excited by my actions. Maybe I should do something about it." His hand slipped under my gown and cupped me in his hands. My body automatically arched into his touch, a low groan escaping my throat. He chuckled as he gathered me into his arms and carried me to my bed. He set me down and pulled the covers up to my chin. I tried to reach out for him, to draw him down with me, but he avoided my every attempt.

"You must sleep now, my beautiful goddess. Do not worry; I will come back to you tomorrow. Same time. I promise." I found my lids drifting shut as he gave me one last long, lingering kiss that seemed to last the entire night...

* * *

When I woke up the next morning, heat rushed to my face as I recalled the events from the previous night. I press unsteady fingertips to my neck and wince slightly. Still hurts, I thought. I licked my lips and amazed myself by still being able to taste his lips on mine. However, this revelation also brought a small frown as well. Overall his lips, his tongue tasted of sweet cinnamon. But underneath it all was something else. Something with a more...coppery taste. Something that I should know. All of a sudden, it hit me.

It was blood...
