Storytime: The beginning

Disclaimer:This original story is rated G. (Only one of a few ^_~) This is part two of Midnight Visitor. If you haven't read that one, it would probably be best before reading this one. So, read and enjoy! ^_^

Ah, Saturday has come at last. The day that you sit back, relax and forget about all the trials and tribulations that you went through during the week. However, there are some things that are easier to forget then others. I go out to the balcony and lean on the railing, letting my mind drift back to last night. When I woke up this morning with the taste of cinnamon and blood on my lips, I thought that I should be disgusted. That I should be outraged at the fact that somehow, he had gotten a taste of my blood. But, strangely enough, I wasn't.

Now you see why I don't think often...

I felt Sian wrap herself around my ankles before she jumped on the railing with me. She meowed quietly at me before head butting me lightly. I started laughing as I picked her up and carried her into the house, leaving the balcony door open behind me.

"Okay, okay you win. What do you want?" I asked her as I put her on the ground. Like a shot, she immediately headed for the kitchen, meowing loudly the whole time. I could only shake my head as I followed. The way to her heart definitely lay in her stomach. But when I got into the kitchen, I realized that it wasn’t food that she wanted. Sitting on the kitchen counter, was a fragrant bouquet of roses colored a deep blood red.

"Oh my goodness," I whispered. I circled the counter and the flowers cautiously, looking for some hidden trap to spring out and hit me.

"Well, they look safe," I muttered softly. Sian jumped on the counter and sniffed them cautiously. She sat next to the vase and just looked at me with unblinking blue eyes, almost an invitation to smell what she has smelled. I leaned in close to one blossom and took a deep whiff. I closed my eyes in soft rapture as I inhaled the sweet scent of roses. Feeling a nudge on my hand, I opened my eyes to see she was walking towards the back of the vase. Following her, my eyes lit upon a small white envelop nestled within the sea of red. I plucked it out, opened it slowly and read what was inside.

Answer the phone...

"Answer the phone?" I muttered. Before I could think anymore about it, the phone rang.

Okay, can we say that this is starting to get really creepy?

With Sian in one hand, I reached out for the wall phone and picked it up slowly.

"Hello?"

"Good afternoon." I closed my eyes as a shiver went down my back at the sound of his voice. To this day, it amazes me that I get that reaction whenever he calls me. Or even if we are just talking, he has that effect. It's something about a deep, well-cultured voice that does something to me.

"I see that you got the flowers that I left for you. I hope that they are to your liking."

"Y...yes the flowers are very beautiful. But, how did you..."

"Good, I am glad that you liked them. However, I cannot answer your questions at this time. But tonight will be the night that questions are answered and things are revealed."

"Wait..." But it was already too late. He had already hung up. I hung up the phone and hugged Sian close to me.

"I guess we just have to wait until tonight to get some answers..."

The rest of the day went off without a hitch. Although, as the day wore on, the sky started to get darker and darker. By the time late afternoon came, we were in the middle of a monster of a thunderstorm. Me and Sian sat in the living room, listening to the rain beat an angry rhythm against the windows and the roof. I sat and thought about what he could possibly want to reveal to me.

"Maybe he's really an axe murder that has fallen love with his victim? Or maybe he's an illegal alien and needs to marry somone in the States in order to get a green card and be able to stay here forever." Sian nipped my hand gently, almost as if she was telling me to put my imagination to rest. I chuckled softly while scratching under her chin. I was rewarded with a deep purr and a muted meow of happiness. But, despite the warmth and joy I felt, there was still a shadow of wondering that wouldn't leave me alone. I couldn't wait until he came tonight.

Knock, knock....knock, knock....

I was awakened by the sound of knocking on my front door. I stretched my muscles and blinked slowly before realizing that I had managed to fall asleep on the couch downstairs. As I rose to my feet and shuffled slowly to the door, I was surprised to see that the rain had stopped. When I opened the door, there, standing on the front steps, was my mysterious stranger. I blinked at him with a bit of confusion. He smiled as he placed a kiss to the corner of my mouth.

"Thought I would use the front door this time," he said, amusement dancing in his eyes. I felt a smile cross my lips as I invited him in.

"That's good. I think it would have been bad for you to have popped up in my bedroom and found me missing." This got a chuckle out of him. He leaned in close and whispered across my ear.

"Don't worry, I would have found you." The feeling of his warm breath caressing my ear sent off another wave of shivers creeping down my back. I smiled and leaned up slightly, placing a hand on his chest and breathing softly across his ear.

"I have no doubt." He pulled away slowly, an eyebrow quirked in curiosity, but didn't say anything. With a hand on the small of my back, he walked with me and sat next to me on the couch. I found myself snuggling up next to him and leaning my head on his shoulder. He slid an arm around my waist and drew me a little closer. I let out a contented sigh when a thought suddenly popped into my head.

All of this and I still don't know his name...

"My name is Azrael," he said. I looked up at him, a dozen questions going through my mind, but unable to focus on any specific one. He swept his hand across my forehead, tucking a stray hair behind my ear.

"Don't worry, any question that you may have had; any insecurities you may have felt, will be revealed tonight."

"But..."

"Ssshh..." he placed a finger against my lips to still any further comments. "I want you to listen. I mean, really listen to what I am going to tell you tonight. It may seem a little...unusual, but please believe me when I say that it's the truth."

I nodded my head slowly, unable to speak what I wanted to say. He let out a deep breath and turned those dark brown eyes to me.

"This is my tale..."
