... Maybe I should've remembered that everyone has their
price. Even my most trusted Wookiee friend. My ex-friend,
that is. You just can't trust anybody these days, I thought
to myself in disgust. Not your friends, not your lover,
and apparently not even your family. It was a mad, mad,
mad galaxy.
I shook my head to clear it and realized immediately that
that was a mistake. A big mistake. My head felt like it'd
been trampled by a herd of wild nerf. Through the resulting
haze of pain, a small detached part of my mind noted the
familiarity of the bunk where I lay. I must admit, it took
me a few moments for my brain to digest this information.
When the figurative glow panel finally lit up, I laughed
out loud and gingerly sat up.
"Tira, I thought I programmed you to obey me? Only me?" I
asked.
"Yes, that's true, Taryn." Tira's calm cool voice mingled
with the loud hum of her engines. "However, I have a very
good reason for my actions. One standard hour after you
entered the Spaceport, I recieved the coded signal from
your comlink and automatically readied myself to, as you
so succintly put it,", Tira coughed very lightly before
continuing, "'run like hell'. Exactly 13 seconds later,
your Wookiee friend showed up, with you slung over her
back. You weren't alone. I counted no less than 35 armed
Rodians in pursuit, all of them firing madly. As you were
incapacitated at the time, I decided to take matters into
my own hands."
So I wasn't kidnapped. That was one bright spot for today.
I rubbed my forehead wearily. "Alright, alright. But where
are we going? Where's Loki? How long was I out? And don't
you have anything for a hangover?! I feel like hell!"
"Of course I do. But you don't need them." Tira was silent
for a moment. "You just need to lie down and relax, Taryn.
Loki, who by the way is in the galley and on her fourth
plate of barbecued nerf, tells me you were in a fight.
That would explain your pain."
I nodded. "Yeah. Okay, I'll lie down. Now answer my other
questions."
"We're headed for the third moon of this system's fifth
planet. Loki assures me we can rest there. I told you she's
in the galley, eating everything we have. We left Nordani's
fifteen minutes ago. We'll be at the moon in approximately
five minutes."
I nodded again, starting to drowse. With a start, I woke
up and looked around. "Okay, we'll be there when?"
"About five minutes. Try to rest, Taryn. Here, I'll dim the
lights."
"Okay... thanks." I mumbled, starting to doze again.
Before I drifted off to sleep, something Tira'd said came back
to me... something about a fight. But then weariness overtook
me and I slept.
