Character Information

Background:

Deckard was born to the illustrious Taldune family 29 years ago. The Taldunes, one of the best known families in the Nexus trade economy, are famed for their agricultural interests. In the vast plains north of Nexus, the Taldunes have for generations raised plantations producing a variety of cash crops. Business is brisk with nearby Nexus, Great Forks, Sijan, and Look Shy. Through careful business arraignments the Taldunes have remained nuetral in territorial disputes between these four great cities and have profited greatly. Deckard was a bit of a black sheep in the family. Far more interested in ancient texts and tales of adventure than business ventures, Deckard was left alone to his studies. The business, now ran by his older sister Luin, trades almost as many slaves as bushels of wheat. Recent rumors of dealings with the Fae brought Deckard to dismiss the family business as 'profiteering off human misery'.

Sad that her little brother did not share her lust for money and power, Luin offered Deckard full ownership of a villa in the hills near the river across from Nexus. She hoped the mansion's vast library would keep him happy (and out of her hair).

What Deckard discovered in the mansion would change his life forever. After researching the building's design he concluded the mansion to be built on a structure dating from before the earliest records of the Dragon-Blooded Shogunate. After months of sleepless nights he finally found the entrance to the ancient foundation, a millenia old manse. As he sat transfixed by the strange writing on the walls and the multitude of ancient tomes he Exalted. In that instant he gained his first taste of magic and power. He liked it.

Deckard threw himself into researching the tomes of the manse and attempting to understand his Exaltation and the First Age. Literatly thousands of books written in the most ancient tongues filled the library manse and he found he could read all of them. The servants of the mansion began to worry of their master's sanity as Deckard became more and more lost in reading the ancient texts. He never revealed the location of the manse to anyone and kept his Exaltation a carefully guarded secret. After months of careful study Deckard had mastered the basics of sorcery and found his knowledge lacking. Though many of the texts in the library still have treasures of forgotten power, Deckard found himself at an impass in his training. Realizing he must broaden his approach he set out to discover the magic hidden in the outside world.
