Thursday August 20th 2009 - What's this, holy shit? The lazy arse has decided to take five minutes out of his day to update a site that no one sees anymore? Well - actually the thing is, for a while I stopped hawking the address out to people. This page is not really something to be proud about! I read each 'news' page thus far and it has stuff that still makes me laugh. I won't lie. Sometimes I'm a funny bastard. However each one is also riddled with my desperate, inane complaints about life and (usually) women. What the fuck! Who wants that as their legacy?
Which is why I stopped writing here. I've decided not to go editing past pages. They can stay there in their pathos. It's not like an old tree will cut itself open and say 'this ring looks bad, let's colour it in'. You are what you are ; I was what I was. Better to think about now!
What's been happening since I stopped writing here? Well it's remarkable, this guy on Queenzone (one of the places that I used to get traffic from) said to me 'you are a perfect example of a wasted life'. Coming from a tumbling dickweed like him, I didn't pay it much attention but as time went by I sort of took his words to heart. I stopped writing on here, I started to do some more productive things... it's all pretty good really. I've been lucky enough to twice play in an Australian Queen tribute band called "Bohemian Rhapsody". Say what you will about tribute bands ... I've heard all of the ridiculous arguments that people usually have. Now that I've spent most of a fortnight living and playing with the guys, I can say that this band in particular is fantastic fun, a good set of players, and nice guys on top of it all. The shows are unpretentious - Queen music is played, people get up and sing along or dance or whatever it is that folks do these days. Fantastic stuff.
My Broke Trek trailer was played before the new Star Trek movie in one or two American theaters. I get warm and fuzzy to think that my editing, my work was amusing enough to find it's way there.
Possibly the neatest thing to come of my creative exploits is that my Spinal Tap fan video was played ON STAGE during Spinal Tap's Unwigged tour. My video - my shitty little zombie video I made with my nephew and sister when I was 18. Made for $0. It got played in front of audiences who LIKED it. The guys from Spinal Tap - guys that have made me laugh my whole life and still continue to do so - LIKED it. How cool! It's humbling. And I hear that it will (if God is kind) be going on the tour DVD. Something I made in my unemployed stupour is going to be on official product.
...
About a week after my last entry on here .... oooh ... May 2008? At around that time I'd put a video of myself on Youtube, reading a select scene from an *abominable* Terminator novelisation by some hack called Shaun Hutson. Barely a couple of days later, my sister (who had been pimping my video on a Livejournal community) gets a message from a cute goth girl who also lives in Perth that she'd be interested in talking to me. Ten days later, I was having bubble tea with her. We were only seeing each other for a month and a half, but it was tremendous fun. She was cool. I guess that's another reason I wasn't writing on here. Who wants to write about weathergirls and Wikipedia vandalism when you're going out with a girl who looks a bit like a cross between Liv Tyler and Terry Farrell??
Alas, that did come to an end. As an internet acquaintence of mine pointed out rather bluntly, it was a miracle it lasted as long as it did, me looking the way I do. Hah.
All of the old arguments I used to come on here to complain about are over ... I can happily write to all of these people now and get a chummy response. I only wish I'd had the foresight to conduct myself a bit better but that's how it goes.
Chad, my old comrade from the Melma days, has been popping over since April, and we've been steadily writing and recording with an eye to getting a performing band back together. The fact is, we've been looking at the competition and we're better. Haha... I don't mean that, entirely. We're not aiming high - but we've assessed the bands that we'd be playing in support of in our area, and frankly we could be doing that too. So it's silly not to be. We have a small raft of cute little songs to play. We're training up again, getting our fitness together. It's all looking great.
I'm not sure why I felt the need to finally update this page... I think I was getting a bit sick of the last update being my 'parting shot'. Sure the gags were good but some of the bitching was rather asinine. And to consider that only a week after that sour bullshit, I was going out with a beautiful goth girl... I think it taught me not to be such a pussy all of the time. Sometimes, life is good, and one shouldn't complain about it on the internet.
SO ... having said all that. Life is fantastic, I've done a bunch of fantastic little projects that people have liked, I've had my work recognised in arenas that I simply didn't imagine were even remotely possible, I've been paid to play music (a miracle considering the way I play sometimes) and I've met great folks through it.
'Wasted life' ... pffft. Some people ey?
In a bit of an about face, I will readily admit that in the year and a bit since I've been gone, I've amassed a lot of silly jpgs that are dying for a home. I may do a more pictoral update at some point. Until then, farewell!
