"If large numbers of people believe in freedom of speech, there will be freedom of speech even if the law forbids it. But if public opinion is sluggish, inconvenient minorities will be persecuted, even if laws exist to protect them." ~George Orwell [Eric Arthur Blair] 1903-1950

Open Letter to Members of Dallas County 'Justice':
My sincerest question is, Does no one do an ethical job anymore?

I want you all to know that I have just sent the following email to approximately 63,000 people with many more who will see it onsite.

For two years, while waiting on justice, Sharif and I have quietly built his case on angelfire.  No more silence on my part. After what you, the authorities in Dallas County, have done with this case, I can do no less than make as much noise about all of you and the system you work in as possible. Especially the judge who ordered Sharif's free speech shut down, and you, Ms. Lindberg. What a shameful thing you have done, inciting hatred and fear where none is necessary!.

The constitution includes Sharif's speech, both on this site and in the courthouse. Sharif's tax money helped build that courthouse and it belongs to all the people, including him. I will have the ladies who were at the courthouse write affidavits that Sharif was not causing a commotion at the courthouse - that in fact it was the sheriff's deputies and the judge's baliffs causing the problem. Are there any specific people to whom you'd like me to send a copy?

Shame on all of you for perverting the constitution in this manner, for making what should have been a simple case into an effort to destroy a man.. It is so evil to use the system, the constitution, the people's money and your authority in such a manner... It's called "CRIMES UNDER THE COLOR OF LAW," and I find you guilty, guilty, guilty!.

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN THE LAW BREAKS THE LAW?

What is going on with our country's justice system? I just got word of a situation at the Frank Crowley Courts building that makes me question how the edicts of the constitution are practiced in Dallas County Texas.

The Director of MTWT Texas, Lakeith Amir-Sharif, made a visit to the courthouse for necessary business.  While there he chose to sit in on a court proceeding, which is the right of any American citizen.  He was approached by people who are willing to testify that they invited him to converse with them, and asked him for information which he provided.

What was shockingly UnAmerican was the way the courthouse staff behaved: The Sheriff's deputies/bailiffs Mr. Adams, Mr. Barker, and Mr. Wilson  were rude, harassing, and racist. Without any statute or regulation to base their actions on, acting strictly on the orders of out-of-order Judge Carter Thompson, the baliffs/deputies demanded Mr. Sharif leave a public building because he was talking to people who asked to speak with him.

Ms. Ellyce Lindberg then took it upon herself to begin a county government chain letter with the obvious intention of causing Sharif great trouble. She used words meant to frighten people, i.e. "his potential for serious violence."  If Sharif was a violent man, the Dallas County authorities have already given him much to be violent about.

He was arrested in 2005 over a mistake the probation office made and an angry ex-girlfriend. He was beaten up by guards, intentionally judged incompetent, spent three months in the state hospital, was returned to a filthy jail, released with time served, only to be rearrested one month later and recharged with the same misdemeanor and new felony charges. He has spent nearly two years in jail waiting for trial, and without ever seeing a judge to resolve his cases, was finally released from jail in February 2007 on what was supposed to be a personal recognizance bond, yet he's being subjected to the same conditions and costs as if he had been legitimately tried, found guilty and sentenced to probation: He has a curfew, a $10 fee for every drug test they request (even though this is not about drugs), and get this: $15 a day for probation and monitoring fees - A DAY! He's also on the Electronic Monitoring program (ELM). It's all recorded on the website.

The fact is Ms. Lindberg's outrageous remarks are purposely intended to incite fear and cause life to get much more difficult for Sharif.  The truth is Sharif has always depended on knowledge and the power of the pen to make his point, not his fists.

If the purpose of all this is to make sure Sharif shows up in court, should he ever get a day in court, it's pure foolishness.  Sharif has never ever missed a court date and this is one he's been requesting for some time now - two damn years to be precise.

In the beginning the only crime was the system's own mistakes but during this entire effort to cover up how it all began and escalated, it has become increasingly apparent that, in the minds of 'law enforcement', the crimes of Dallas County authority can only be covered up by destroying Sharif.

I've worked with Sharif for over 10 years.  He's a good man from a proud black family, all of whom are active in defending the rights of the oppressed.  They, those who represent the law in Dallas County, are going to wrongfully and maliciously take his freedom away for a very long time.  They will deprive his family, his children, friends and those he helps of the benefit of his presence.  They will destroy him for his spirit if they have their way and I feel helpless to prevent it, although I will try.

Sometimes it makes bad people back off when they realize everyone knows, and sometimes good people step up to the plate... Who knows... I'll keep you updated.

SHARIF'S "PERSONAL RECOGNIZANCE BOND"

Now remember, after sitting in jail for most of two years, Sharif has never been taken in front of a judge, nor given a trial and a fair chance to defend himself.  He has never had his day in court, yet these are the terms of his 'personal recognizance bond' for release from jail. There really is no wonder why people don't make it through probation more than 35% of the time.

The probation/program I am on is called Dallas County CSCD Electronic Monitoring program (ELM). The monitoring company contracted by the county of Dallas is called Sentinel, and they use a GPS tracking system to watch my every movement through the box placed on my ankle and a cell/tracking phone I have to carry with me any time I leave out the door. The conditions of this so-called personal recognizance bond are as follows:

1. Report weekly to the probation office in downtown, Dallas, Texas.

2. Submit a weekly activity sheet detailing your/my activities (i.e. my every move), based on the curfew being imposed on me. This schedule will be used to monitor my compliance under House Arrest/ELM. The following are to be submitted at each office visit:

A. Completed report form and activity sheet.
B. Proof of counseling.
C. Proof of court appearances or bondsman visits.
D. Any other documentation of time away from the residence.

3. Probation fees, urine analysis ($10.00) anytime they want; and ELM fees ($15.00 a day) MUST be paid in the form of a cashier's check or money order made payable to Dallas County CSCD.

(See: Texas Code of Criminal Procedure 17.03 (c) which states that the prerequisite for the urine testing is only if he was charged with or was in possession of drugs or alcohol at the time of his arrest or upon a finding by the court that his charges are drug or alcohol related, which they aren't. "I'm not a damn doper." ~Sharif

This excerpt is taken from the Texas statute: (c)  When setting a personal bond under this chapter, on reasonable belief by the investigating or arresting law enforcement agent or magistrate of the presence of a controlled substance in the defendant's body or on the finding of drug or alcohol abuse related to the offense for which the defendant is charged, the court or a magistrate shall require as a condition of personal bond that the defendant submit to testing for alcohol or a controlled substance in the defendant's body and participate in an alcohol or drug abuse treatment or education program if such a condition will serve to reasonably assure the appearance of the defendant

4. Urine specimens may be collected frequently; therefore it is important you report each week prepared to submit a sample.

5. Frequent and "unannounced" home/work visits will be made. Advise family members that these visits are necessary.

6. PROHIBITED PHONE FEATURES: call forwarding, privacy manager; call block or anonymous call rejection. These features prohibit monitoring and will be reported to the court as a violation if not removed within 48 hours of notification and removal request.

7. The "call waiting" feature is acceptable only if the phone line is released when an incoming call is heard. FAILURE TO ANSWER PROHIBIT MONITORING as the incoming call may be the monitoring company.

8. My curfew/schedule is 10am-10pm Monday through Saturday, I can do what I need to do. Sunday 9am-2pm is for church services. After the 10pm time and the 2pm time on Sundays I am under house arrest.

UPDATE: In June 2007, the Honorable Judge Carter Thompson, who is currently presiding over Sharif's felony charges, rescinded all the above mentioned conditions and restrictions on Sharif. Judge Thompson is perhaps one of the more law abiding judges that Sharif has gone before. This has been a real plus for Sharif, who is "INNOCENT" and poses no threat to anyone, including the alleged victim/witness Cathy Jonette Hawkins. Had Sharif been the dangerous and deranged man the DA's office has attempted to portray him as then Sharif would of never been released from jail to begin with.

MTWT and the many others following Sharif's case believe that, with each passing day, there are some people within the Dallas justice system who recognize the folly of this prosecution as a waste of taxpayers money, the court's scares resources, of and Sharif's life freedom.
