DALLAS COUNTY JUSTICE:
The System: The Jail, MHMR, Attorneys, judges and doctors

If he is right, stand up for him,
and never, ever give a convict a bum rap."

FOR THE PUBLIC INTEREST
I am opposed to the injustices of today's system of society in which we live, not because I lack the natural equipment to do for myself, but because I am not satisfied to make myself comfortable knowing that there are thousands of my fellow beings who suffer for the barest necessities of life and human decency.
We were taught under the old ethic that man's business on this earth was to look out for himself. That was the ethic of the jungle; the ethic of the wild beast. Take care of yourself, no matter what may become of your fellow man, woman and child.
Thousands of years ago the question was asked: "Am I my brother's keeper?" That question has never yet been answered in a way that is satisfactory to civilized society. That question has never yet been answered in a way that is satisfactory to Sharif. So let me state for the record that "Yes", I am my brother's keeper and my sister's keeper. I am under a moral obligation to him, her and their offspring that is inspired, not by any abstract idealism or maudlin sentimentality, but by the higher duty I owe myself and my Creator.
What would you think of me if I were capable of seating myself at a table and gorging myself with food while about me the children of my fellow beings were starving to death. What would you think of me if I were capable of sitting in silence as the state carried out your execution when I knew of the existence of evidence that proved you were innocent of the crime? Yes, I am my brother's keeper. - Lakeith Amir-Sharif.
My Brother's Keeper by Kay Lee
My name is Sharif and welcome to the website of Making The Walls Transparent Texas Chapter (MTWT-TEXAS). This website is dedicated to allowing the world to see the injustices and abuse inflicted by the Texas criminal "justice" system. This website and our organization is a refuge where your concerns and stories can be voiced in your own words, anonymously if you prefer, because the injustices you and your loved ones are experiencing matters to us.
MTWT sincerely hopes that the stories and information you read and share with us here will inspire discussions and a genuine call for accountability and action from all of our elected leaders, as well as the state and federal agencies responsible for the lawful and humane operations, management and oversight of the Dallas County judicial system and jail.
MTWT's mission is to promote equality and justice for all people, by defending the civil and human rights of everyone through educating the public and by assuming the task of advocate for the voiceless classes of people affected by the things occurring here in Dallas and throughout the state of Texas. We hope the things you read will inspire you to join the cause for truth and justice. We want to - and all of us must - organize ourselves to bring about changes.
On behalf of all the reporters, supporters, and friends of MTWT, I would like to personally extend our deepest & heartfelt regards to the children, families, and friends who have suffered as a result of their loved ones being wrongfully convicted. I would also like to extend the same respect to the children, families and friends who have lost a loved one as a direct result of the negligence, brutality, ineptness and deliberate indifference of the Dallas county commissioners, Sheriff Lupe Valdez and the jail's staff or others involved with the jail's operations. I realize that saying we're sorry will never erase your pain and the scars left, but please rest assured that we at MTWT do care. We are committed to organize and participate in demonstrations, vigils, marches, petitions, letter writing and call in campaigns to whomever necessary in order to bring about qualitative changes that will put an end to the longstanding and pervasive injustices occurring daily inside Dallas county's jails and courtrooms.
No one, should ever lose their freedom just because of the color of their skin or because they aren't able to afford competent and effective legal representation. No one should have their rights violated or be dehumanized, brutalized, maimed or lose their life simply because they have been accused of a crime, arrested and taken to the Dallas county jail - No One!!!
MTWT will be relentless in our efforts until policy changes and other administrative and legislative actions are implemented; because as a general matter, MTWT believes the ultimate public interest lies in the protection of the Constitution and human rights of all it's members; not just the privileged few.
MTWT welcomes all your comments, suggestions, criticism and information. Everyone's opinion is valued, because what you share with our staff will be helpful in making our mission a success.

VOTE NO TO RE-ELECT JUDGE JOHN CRUZOT
My name is Mary Mathis. They’re saying I am a Mad Black Woman. I don’t get mad, but I do pray for the True Spirit of the Law to make itself manifest in the Dallas County Texas justice system. We need Spiritual Leaders to rule.
Our Justice System should defend everyone's right to Justice and Fairness. Our Justice System should not be influenced by others, for that would be in opposition to the true spirit of law and integrity. Judge John Creuzot does not represent Ethics of the Spirit.
For these reasons, please vote no to the re-election of Judge John Creuzot. His energy is mixed up and spiritual parts are missing.
To Judge John Creuzot, I pray for you and pray that you read PROVERBS 29 in the HOLY BIBLE (v4) - THE KING ESTABLISHES THE LAND BY JUSTICE, BUT HE WHO RECEIVES BRIBES OVERTHROWS IT. AND v12) - IF A RULER PAYS ATTENTION TO LIES, ALL HIS SERVANTS BECOME WICKED.
I was put in jail for 2 years because Judge Creuzot failed to do his job properly for two years - He did NOT update the docket after Judge Manny Alvarez recused himself. He did NOT recall the warrants issued by Judge Alvarez (who happens to be at the top of Creuzot’s endorsement list).
Because Judge Creuzot is unfair in the courtroom and partial to his friends, I am on a home monitor. I am requesting that Judge Creuzot RECUSE himself from my case immediately. Read my story by Mary Mathis.
MARY MATHIS AND DALLAS COUNTY JUSTICE
IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST
I feel so helpless. No one deserves death, which is where MRSA ends if left untreated for many months, and my cousin has become infected with it at the jail.
My name is Amy Brooks. I'm Deanna's cousin. My aunt Lara reported all details about county visits, letters, and phone calls to me, and I have kept the journal on Deanna over the last year.
I have visited Deanna, as has her mother, starting with her visits in Dallas County Jail, and when she was transferred to Collin County a few months later. After trial, she was sentenced to Plane State Jail in Dayton Texas. Deanna's last letter stated she was requesting transfer to another jail.
No one listened to me in my many state phone calls and letters concerning Deanna's health. Death is apparently acceptable to the inmates and the state staff, even though 53% of our Texas inmates are minor drug offenders.
For everyone's safety, including the public, we need a system in place, which allows at least a proper medical diagnosis for disease control and a stable recovery from chemicals.
Each visit to Dallas County Jail, I read a sign through the locked doors. It said "DO NOT USE SOAP/NO SOAP". Apparently, the inmates have been trying to commit suicide, overdosing on suds. As an inmate visitor, I couldn't wash my hands with soap, or dry my hands in the public bathroom in Lew Sterrett, Dallas County Jail.
It's tough seeing a young woman, my own cousin, deteriorate with sores to the point where released inmates call her mother asking, "What's wrong with Deanna". What the inmates and staff don't seem to know is: MRSA infection is very contagious when there are visual sores and untreated can lead to Leukemia. Now these inmates are going home and infecting their families.
Testing must be done to establish which of the eight strains of MRSA is present. No one knows what the sores are, unless you have a great doctor, and an expensive lab test. Our state does not test for MRSA in jail inmates. Instead it's misdiagnosed as tuberculosis.
I love my cousin, but the problem is: she stopped loving herself. She ended up in jail. Through the jail abuse and disease eating her health, she no longer asks for real medical attention. But, she continues with her recovery classes until she is released, hopefully in September 2008.
This morning at the CPS hearing they allowed the father to take her 1 year old, while Deanna continues suffering in Plane State Jail.
MEDICAL MALTREATMENT IN TEXAS JAILS
My name is Kay Lee, Creator of MTWT. On this site I will be your webmistress while we discuss another substandard jail and a shameful court system which now leads the nation in the number of wrongfully convicted defendants. We will focus on the many destroyed lives of defendants like Lakeith Amir Sharif ("Sharif"), the director of the Texas chapter of Making The Walls Transparent (MTWT-TEXAS). Sharif's case exposes many unlawful and unconstitutional facets of the Dallas judicial system. His story lays bare the often erroneous and at times downright criminal behavior of representatives of the legal system that negatively affects so many families and convicts low-income defendants every day, regardless of innocence or guilt. Sharif will lead us through a maze of Dallas County injustice, from the beleaguered county jail directly into the MHMR hospitals and back again. You will meet abusive jailers, unethical doctors, lazy and incompetent defense attorneys, a sheriff, judges, county commissioners, and state legislators who are allowing it. The trip should anger you, my reader, because you are paying for it all. Looking Forward, Kay Lee
