Rusty was a very well loved miniture horse. He was placed in an adoptive home where he was loved very much. One day while his owner was gone some loose dogs jumped into his pen and killed him. When she got home she found him. Horrified she found & collected hair samples and called animal control. The officer told her to watch and they would most likely comme back. She did and found out it had been a couple of pet labs that had belonged to her neighbors. She sent the hair samples in to confirm it was indeed them who killed her beloved Rusty.
The owners were contacted and agreeded to have the dogs put down. They also reimbursed her for Rusty and paid the lab fees.
People with ponys and mini horses need to be aware these things can happen. Higher fences may need to be erected to keep your loved pets from large dogs and other possiable predators. Especially if they are kept alone.
