I apologize in advance for the long post - just wanted to explain things as well as I can. This is something I've always wondered about... when I was 15 our house in Mill Creek, IL (Union County) apparently acquired a ghost (or something PN) that stayed for about 6 months then left. This would have been in 1978 and there wasn't much information available to me in S. Illinois then. I am an only child and my father and I are the main ones who experienced anything odd - my mother only experienced the end incident. While I experienced a few things, the majority of them were experienced by my father, who was a really no-nonsense sort who I'm sure had trouble believing what was happening. I'm curious what you think we had in our house - please let me know your thoughts. Our house was out in the country in S. Illinois and had been built around 1920. My mother said she knew the family that had built the house and there was nothing odd that happened there as far as she knew. My aunt and uncle bought the house from the original family in the 1950's and my uncle was killed in a tractor accident in 1963. His wake was held in the house in what eventually became my bedroom. My parents later bought the house from my aunt.
Here are the major incidents:
1. Full-body apparition sighting: My father was home alone and was watching tv about 7:30 pm one night, he got up to go to the bathroom and as he rounded the corner to the hallway, he saw a young teenage girl run out of our bathroom,they both stopped for a moment looking at one another, she acted like it startled her. Then she zoomed down the hall into my room, passing through a 2-inch crack in the door. He said she looked completely real and solid, had blond hair, was wearing a thin sleeveless light green dress, and was barefoot. When he looked into my bedroom, there was no one there. Needless to say, he was kind of shaken up by that. This bathroom was kind of weird - it had 3 windows across one side and you just felt like someone was watching you when you were in there. My friend who is very psychically sensitive was totally freaked out by the room and wouldn't go in there alone.
2. Covers pulled off my bed: One night I had just gone to bed and had my stereo on so there was a little bit of light in the room. Suddenly I felt the covers being tugged off my right foot. I was pretty freaked out and stayed very still to see if it did it again. Next thing I knew the covers were yanked down towards the foot of the bed about 2 feet. I actually saw wrinkles in the covers being straightened out. I ran screaming out of the room and made my Dad go sleep in my room while I slept with my Mom.
3. My Dad was home alone again and had his feet tickled while he was sitting in his recliner watching tv. He was extremely tickish, to the point of it being almost painful. He said he initially thought it was me but again, there was no else in the house.
4. Dad and I were home alone (my mother worked a 2:00-10:00pm shift) and we were discussing the activity in our house and I said "Wonder what its name is?" and immediately we heard the most god-awful CRASH come from the kitchen, it sounded like every pot and pan and dish in the place had been thrown to floor and smashed. We both jumped up and ran in there and there wasn't a thing out of place.
5. One evening both my Mom and I were out of the house and when Dad got home from work he noticed that all the lights were on in the house and the door was unlocked. He thought I was home and came in and said hello. A voice that sounded like me answered "Hi Papa!". He went to stick his head in my door and chat and there was no one home. There was no reason for the lights to be on or the door unlocked as my Mom left for work at 1:30 in the afternoon and always locked the door.
6. This seemed to be the "farewell" activity for whatever PN activity we had going on. One summer evening we had some guests and when they left we walked them out and we were all standing out in the yard about 15 feet from the side door. This door was one of those storm doors with the pneumatic closer that can't be slammed. As we were standing there, the door flew open and slammed so hard the glass rattled. There was no wind and all of us there saw this happen. My Dad remarked that it must have been our ghost leaving and there was no more activity after this incident.
Do you think this was an actual ghost or something else? Do they sometimes come in for a while and then just abruptly leave?
