Donna Millard is a nationally known lampwork artist living in the Susitna Valley of Alaska. She has been working with various forms of glass for more than 25 years. Her newest art form, known as Lampwork, is her current artistic passion. Having taken a beginner class in 2002, Donna has since self-taught herself all the techniques she now uses in her unique art glass beads and buttons. Donna works with glass imported from Italy and Germany. It is melted in a hot flame and wound onto a metal rod called a mandrel. She manipulates the glass to achieve the glass beads you see in her work. Once she completes a piece, it is immediately placed into a kiln and fired. This process is called annealing and assures long lasting quality. Each bead is then cleaned and inspected before being used in her jewelry designs. Donna uses only the finest sterling silver, semi-precious gemstones and pearls in her jewelry. Her work can be found in galleries and shops in Alaska, Wisconsin and private collections around the world.
