Our Space: Defining culture across the board

Cultural space can be found beyond the home.

Cultural Space

Jeff Ferrell (1997) defines cultural space as the arenas in which young people and others construct meanings, perception, and identity. Physical representations of cultural space include, but not limited to, a teenager’s bedroom, the streets, and symbolic displays that define a “personal style.”

This website is dedicated to providing information of the different cultural spaces constructed by youth. The different spaces that we, CJ 628 class of Spring 2005, address include Cuban Hip Hop, the media, online communities, tattoos, Chicano gangs, girl gangs, skinhead groups, and the homeless youth.
