Raven In School
Raven,s Wonderful Six Years
Six years from putting diapers on my small 6 pound, 6 ounce baby girl to preparing a sprouting young lady for her second school dance at Cedarwood Elementary has been to me a life changing experience. This all began two weeks ago with a green and black flyer anouncing the Fall Dance. I gave Raven permisson right away, and out the door she went to tell McKalla and Deshawn that she was going to the "Ball". Now let me tell you that when I went to her dance last year, there were hundreds of K through 5 kids running around while hip hop music is blairing in the gym. Around the edges of the commotion were the parents, talking and enjoying the moment. The group of girls, our small group of hyperactive runners, will again make this year's dance a success even though they ignore those "boys".
Raven's Spelling Test

Raven first day of school began Septmber 9, 2003. I was so scared because I heard alot about kids on there first day of school are terrorfied and cry alot. My brave little girl gave me a kiss and said "Bye" and never looked back, and all that I was thinking about was whether she would be "okay". This year began the same way. DeShawn and Raven, both off to school and spending another day together. My little Raven goes to school everyday, but like most your children, she talks some during class and study time, so a little trouble is always in the mix.

Cedarwood

Cedarwood School seeks to educate the whole child through
an adventure education focus. Cedarwood School offers children the opportunity to stretch themselves through problem-
solving and challenging activities integrated into a strong basic
skills academic program.

Cedarwood staff members receive a variety of extra training related to our Project Adventure theme. Every staff member is required to be certified to facilitate initiatives at the Adventure Education Center (AEC). This means they can lead student groups in teambuilding initiative activities. The fifth grade teachers are certified instructors on the AEC high-ropes course. Every staff member also takes the TRIBES classroom community training offered by Columbus Public Schools. In the winter of 2001 our staff will also receive training in Cognitively
Guided Instruction (CGI).
