The murder was committed by a team of three. Lindsay, Fred, and the butler all had an active part in it. Sam was the only suspect that was not, because he was deeply saddened by his brother’s death. You see, Lindsay was having an affair with the butler and they covered for each other with the alibis. With Roger gone, Lindsay would inherit all of the money and her lover, the butler, would get to indulge in everything he had ever wanted. Fred fits in because he was a Cherokee Indian expert and he knew how to throw a hatchet. Lindsay and the butler bribed Fred into killing Roger. The argument over the loan was overheard by the butler and he told Lindsay about it. They decided to pay Fred the amount of money that the loan would have been, plus a little more.
