The love of Lee was so high that Lee was never blamed for Gettysburg. His men and generals held such respect and devotion for Lee that they never even considered that it might be Lee's fault. The blame was layed on either the men that faught at Gettysburg or the field-generals that commanded them. Although Lee insisted that gettsburg was his fault and that he should take the blame, his men quickly assured the general that they had let him down and that its was thier fault.
