Making Graphs- Team members on the voting
page took two polls during the year. This was done, as in any election,
in an attempt to speculate the final winner. Students selected one
class from each of the participating grade levels and asked students who
had already read at least 5 of the books to vote for their favorite thus far.
Matching Game - Team members on the game page
were able to locate Java script at Dynamic
Drive.com. They selected a mouseover
script and used tables with images to create a fun and changable activity.
They started by creating 3 tables (each with 2 rows and 4 colums) in Netscape
Composer. In the column on the first row of each table, they typed
in character names. In each of the columns on the second row of each
table, they inserted a blocking image (a question mark). Once the
page was uploaded to the web site, the students followed the directions
from the java site. They copied and pasted in the main script and
then applied the "hsrc" tag with the url the correct book image to each
of the question mark images.
Digital Diaries - As a culminating activity,
students filled in digital diary pages and saved them to their hosting
site. A basic digital diary page was loaded onto
the server in a folder by the teacher. Students were instructed to
go to that folder in the server lab folder and drag the page to their desktop.
From there, they took the basic page to Netscape and opened it in Composer.
Once here, they were able to add backgrounds, images and their personal
text. To save the page, they added their name to the "digitaldiary"
tag. The pages could then be downloaded onto the Web Site.
