Lets make a Trail

Next Image

You can see in this photo that my front end is unattached at this point but yet everything is there for the basic front end. Now its time to determine where the forks will bolt to the rockers for the trail we want. With the steering head laying in place and the wheel about where it should be we can take a long rod of some kind and line it down the steering neck as if it was the stem bolt going all the way to the ground. That line should hit the ground in front of the axle no more than 1 1/2". That is about as close to perfect as you get. If your going to error, make it less trail not more. Anywhere from 1/2" to 1 1/2" is good. CAUTION DO NOT GET NEGATIVE TRAIL! OK so you now should know where your wheel should be for the trail we want. You can now make the measurement for your forks while they are bolted up to the tree. So now you can cut your forks the length they need to be and drill the rocker and bolt them puppies up. We Are ON 3! Follow the pages ahead to see how to notch your forks and do the other steps to complete your Springer Look Front end.
