Tuskegee Pilots
Topic: Tuskegee Info
The Tuskegee Airmen were a group of pilots in World War Two consisting of only african american males. The US military perfectly portraits the segregation that took place during this time period by segregating blacks into one unit. Although it was a segregated unit, this was one of the strongest units of the war. The pilots amlost always flew P-51 mustangs, but occasionaly P-38's, P-40's, and P-38's. In the Army Air Core, white pilots were only allowed to fly 52 missions, but some black pilots flew over 100. The Tuskegee airmen were mostly assigned to escort missions, and on all their 200 escort missions, not one bomber was lost. The kill record held by the pilots is 251 enemy planes shot down. Another amazing feat carried out by these pilots was sinking a german destryoer using only machine guns.
