1997 The party roared to life in one of the most famous basements in Moorseville North Carolina. The cars lined the long driveway in a snake like pattern. The music could be heard all the way across the street in the parking lot of DEI. Dale Sr. stepped up to his car with his wife by his side. Shaking his head he wondered if that boy would ever grow up and find some responsibility in his life.
2003 Winston Cup championship contender. 2 Busch championships. A schedule that took him from North Carolina, to Dover, to Pennsylvania, to Michigan, to California, and then to Florida all in 6 weeks. Not to mention sponser appointments across the county in between. Motorcoach, to helicopter, to lear jet, to rental car, it seemed he was never home "but think of the traveling you get to do." someone said to him one day. "Yeah, trust me I think about it everyday." He said with a sigh.
2006 He packed up and jogged to the copter pad. Not one of his best races but he had bigger thoughts on his mind as the copter landed and he jumped into his truck and headed home. He pulled into his driveway and left his bags in the car, he would get them later. As he stepped up on the porch the door swung open and there they were, the lights of his life. "Daddy!" she lunged her self out of her mothers arms and towards her father. "Hey, there baby girl." He kissed her forhead looking at her feet "Are your shoes hurting your feet?" "Nope, I put them on myself." He laughed "I can tell." he turned "Hey, buddy what you have there?" A cup came at him "You have a drink for daddy?" the little boy giggled as he tickled his belly. "Hey, baby. God I missed you guys this weekend." he kissed her. "We missed you too, didn't we?" she said bouncing the baby on her hip, he giggled again. "We are together now." He stepped inside, looked back out towards his front yard, smiled, and closed the door.
the only ground i ever owned was stickin to my shoes
now i look at my front porch in this panoramic view
i could sit and watch the field fill up with rays of golden sun
or watch the moon lay on the fences like thats where it was hung
my investments are in front of me its not about the land
ill never beat the view
from my front porch lookin in
theres a carrot top who can barely walk
with a sippy cup of milk
a lil blue eyed blonde with shoes on wrong cuz she
likes to dress herself
and the most beautiful girl
holdin both of them
yea the view i love the most is my front porch lookin in
yea yea
i travel here and everywhere
followin my job
ive seen the paintings from the air
brushed by the hand of god
the mountains and the canyons reach from sea to shining sea
but i cant wait to get bak home to the woman he made for me
cuz anywhere ill ever go and everywhere iv been
nuthin takes my breath away like my front porch lookin in
[chorus]
i see wut beautiful is about
when im lookin in
not when im lookin out
[chorus]
theres a carrot top that can barely walk
(from my front porch lookin in)
a lil blue eyed blonde w/ shoes on wrong
(from my front porch lookin in)
the most beautiful girl
holdin both of them
oooo yea
