Hugh Hefner

Hugh Marston Hefner was born in Chicago on April 9, 1926, the older son of conservative Protestant parents, Glenn and Grace Hefner, and a direct descendent of distinguished Massachusetts Puritan patriarchs William Bradford and John Winthrop. He attended Sayre Elementary School and Steinmetz High on the West Side of Chicago, where he was no more than an average student, despite a genius IQ (152), distinguishing himself instead with his extracurricular activities, founding a school paper, writing, cartooning and serving as president of the student council, where he championed student causes.
Following graduation from high school in January 1944, Hef (a nickname preferred since adolescence) joined the army serving as an Infantry Clerk and drawing cartoons for various Army newspapers. After his discharge from service in 1946, he spent the summer taking art classes (anatomy, of course) at the Chicago Art Institute, enrolling that fall at the University of Illinois in Champaign/Urbana. Hef earned his bachelor's degree in two and a half years by doubling up on classes while drawing cartoons for the Daily Illini and editing the campus humor magazine Shaft, where he introduced a new feature called Coed of the Month.
He subsequently took a semester of graduate courses in sociology at Northwestern University where, pursuing his interest in individual freedom, he wrote a term paper examining U.S. sex laws in light of the then-astonishing Kinsey Institute research on human sexuality.
In June 1949, Hef married a classmate, Mildred Williams. Their ten-year marriage produced two children: Christie in 1952 and David in 1955.
Following college, Hef tried his hand at cartooning and, failing to sell any of his ideas for a cartoon strip, published a book of satirical cartoons about Chicago titled That Toddlin' Town.
Hef worked as an assistant personnel manager for the Chicago Carton Company for $45 a week in 1949 and as an advertising copywriter for the Carson, Pirie, Scott department store for just $40 a week in 1950. His future seemed uncertain when he landed a promising job as a promotion copywriter at Esquire at $60 a week in January 1951. When Esquire moved its offices to New York, his request for a five-dollar raise was denied, and he decided to stay behind and start a magazine of his own.
Hef and a fellow copywriter from Esquire tried to raise enough capital to launch a Chicago magazine and failed. While working as the newsstand promotion director of Publishers Development Corporation in 1952, he became convinced there was a market for a sophisticated men's magazine that would reflect the views of the post-War generation and he was the man to start it.
To support his family, he took a better-paying job as circulation manager of Children's Activities magazine in January 1953, but that spring and summer the dream of starting his own magazine became an obsession. He found a printer willing to print the first issue and a distributor to distribute it. He got friends and family to invest in the venture, raising just $8000, including $600 of his own money borrowed from a bank using his family's furniture as collateral.
The first issue of Playboy magazine, featuring the now-famous calendar photo of Marilyn Monroe, was produced on a kitchen table in his South Side apartment. On the newsstands in December 1953, it carried no cover date because Hef was not sure when or if he would be able to produce another. But the first issue sold more than 50,000 copies, enough to pay for the paper and printing costs and to finance another issue.
Thereafter, Hef never doubted that the magazine would be a success. He plowed profits back into the publication and hired a young, enthusiastic editorial, art, promotion and advertising staff to assist him. Playboy grew at a phenomenal rate. By the end of the decade, the magazine was selling more than a million copies a month and, to celebrate, Hef held the first Playboy Jazz Festival at the Chicago Stadium. It was called, at the time, the greatest single weekend in the history of jazz.
At the start of the new decade, Hef began to live out the "Good Life" depicted in the pages of his publication. He hosted a popular syndicated television show called Playboy's Penthouse, purchased the Playboy Mansion at 1340 North State Parkway, and opened the first Playboy Club on the Near North Side of Chicago on February 29, 1960.
Throughout the Sixties, Hef and Playboy became what Chicago columnist Bob Greene has called "a force of nature." Hef wrote an extended series of editorials titled "The Playboy Philosophy," championing the rights of the individual and challenging the country's heritage of puritan repression. The magazine became the largest-selling, most influential men's magazine in the world.
By 1971, when Playboy Enterprises went public, the magazine was selling 7 million copies a month and there were 23 Playboy Clubs, resorts, hotels and casinos with more than 900,000 members worldwide. The corporation also included book publishing, merchandising, a modeling agency, a limousine service, a record label and a TV and motion picture company. It was truly an empire ruled by one man.
Hef hosted a second syndicated television show, Playboy After Dark, taped in Hollywood in 1968 and 1969, and in 1970 acquired the famed black Big Bunny jet, a DC-9 from McDonnell Douglas, in which he regularly commuted between Chicago and California, and toured the world.
In 1971, he established a second residence in Los Angeles with the acquisition of a five-and-one-half acre estate in Holmby Hills, which quickly became known as Playboy Mansion West, where he was able to more closely supervise Playboy Enterprises' increasing interests in television and film production.
In 1975, Hef decided to make Los Angeles his permanent home, reflecting the extent to which Hollywood movies had influenced his dreams and aspirations as a boy. In 1980, Hef championed the reconstruction of the Hollywood sign (then in serious disrepair) and was honored with a star on the Hollywood walk of fame for his efforts. In saving the sign, Hef referred to it as "Hollywood's Eiffel Tower." The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honored him further, with its First Annual Hollywood Hall of Fame Award as Outstanding Citizen of the Year.
The Hollywood sign restoration was only one of Hef and Playboy's major projects as a part of the Hollywood creative community. The company produced such features as Roman Polanski's Macbeth, distributed by Columbia Pictures, which was voted Best Picture of the Year in 1971 by the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures; Monty Python's first film, And Now For Something Completely Different; Peter Bogdanovich's Saint Jack; and The Naked Ape, with Universal Studios.
Playboy also produced such popular television movies as Third Girl From The Left, with Kim Novak and Tony Curtis; The Death of Ocean View Park; The Cop and the Kid; and A Whale For The Killing.
The increasingly conservative Eighties took their toll on both Hef and his company. In 1985, he suffered a stroke that changed the direction of his life. He referred to it at the time as "a stroke of luck."
Bringing his life full-circle, the world's most famous bachelor was married on July 1, 1989 to Kimberley Conrad, Playboy's 1989 Playmate of the Year. Their fairy tale courtship resulted in an uncommonly romantic wedding ceremony conducted at the wishing well at Playboy Mansion West where Hef proposed. Their first son, Marston Glenn, was born on Hef's birthday, April 9, 1990, and their second son Cooper Bradford, was born on September 4, 1991. The Hefners are currently separated, and Mrs. Hefner and the boys live on an estate adjacent to the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles.
Since the mid-Eighties, daughter Christie Hefner has served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Playboy Enterprises, but Hef continues to serve as the magazine's editor-in-chief, plays a key role in determining the path of Playboy Enterprises and directs other areas of the corporation including cable television and video production.
Hollywood and cinema continue to be major factors in Hef's personal and professional life. At his direction, the Playboy Foundation instituted the Freedom of Expression Award, given annually at the Sundance Film Festival. Hef recently underwrote the West Coast retrospective of the late British filmmaker Dennis Potter's works at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art; he personally endowed a course in Censorship in Cinema at USC, at which he serves as a guest lecturer; and, he has been a major contributor to UCLA's project to restore classic films.
Hef was a sponsor of the acclaimed "American Cinema" series on PBS, and he has long been active in seeking out and restoring such vintage films as Vitaphone shorts and the films of Twenties British crooner Al Bowlly.
In 1994, Hef established and Playboy founded the Playboy Jazz Film Festival, the first-ever showcase on the West Coast for many of the best and rarest films in the jazz lexicon. This event was in addition to the annual Jazz on Film program traditionally presented free to the public by Playboy on the eve of the Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl, which is now in it's 22nd consecutive year.
On March 28, 1996, Hef was honored in formal ceremonies at the University of Southern California for his lifelong dedication to film and his endowment of a chair for the Study of American Film at the University's School of Cinema-Television. The Hefner gift marked only the second such endowment in the history of the prestigious film school. The other chair was endowed in memory of the late Steve Ross, who had served as chairman of Time-Warner.
Hef's personal archive at the Playboy Mansion in Holmby Hills contains more than 4000 feature films. Each weekend, he screens films at the Mansion for celebrities and personal friends. Each Sunday is a first-run feature. Friday nights are vintage classics. Often, Saturday nights are a mini-festival of silent films.
Hef has frequently been quoted as believing that the United States' most important export is "the American Dream," which he feels is conveyed to the world through motion pictures.
Hef has profoundly influenced society in the second half of the 20th Century during which his publication has been the world's best-selling men's magazine.
Frequently interviewed by major news and entertainment media the world over, in 1996 he was the subject of an extraordinary two-hour profile, Hugh Hefner: American Playboy on the A&E Network's prestigious Biography series. He had previously been the subject of a feature length documentary film, Hugh Hefner: Once Upon A Time, produced by Lynch/Frost Productions and distributed by IRS Releasing. After its first run in theaters, the film became a popular addition to many international film festivals and continues to attract new viewers on cable television and home video in the U.S. and on broadcast, cable and satellite-delivered television around the world.
More recently, he was the subject of a one-hour "Celebrity Profile" on the E! Entertainment Television Network and a half-hour "People in the News" installment on CNN.
In 2000, Hef guest-starred on an episode of HBO's Sex and the City, and in 2001, he appeared in the 1000th episode of NBC's Just Shoot Me. In addition to numerous ongoing national and international television appearances, Hef has been the subject of a host of recent print profiles in publications including Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, Esquire, The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Time magazine and the Times of London. In 2000, the city of Chicago honored Hef by renaming a downtown street after him, and two days later Hef rang the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange. In 2001, Hef was immortalized in silicone at the Hollywood Wax Museum and roasted by the New York Friars Club.
The recipient of a number of awards for his contributions to society in general and the publishing industry in particular, Hef received the 1996 International Publishing Award from the International Press Directory in London and was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the American Society of Magazine Editors at its 1998 ceremonies in New York.
Most recently, Hef has become a fixture on the Hollywood celebrity club scene and the Mansion has once again become a mecca for entertainment industry superstars including a new wave of young motion picture and television celebrities, rock groups and more.
His dreams are soon expected to reach the large screen theatrically in a feature film.

Marilyn Monroe

Biography Of Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe personified Hollywood glamour with an unparalleled glow and energy that enamored the world. Although she was an alluring beauty with voluptuous curves and a generous pout, Marilyn was more than a '50s sex goddess. Her apparent vulnerability and innocence, in combination with an innate sensuality, has endeared her to the global consciousness. She dominated the age of movie stars to become, without question, the most famous woman of the 20th Century.

She was born Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles, California, to Gladys Baker. As the identity of her father is undetermined, she was later baptized Norma Jeane Baker. Gladys had been a film cutter at RKO studios, but psychological problems prevented her from keeping the job and she was eventually committed to a mental institution.

Norma Jeane spent most of her childhood in foster homes and orphanages until 1937, when she moved in with family friend Grace McKee Goddard. Unfortunately, when Grace's husband was transferred to the East Coast in 1942, the couple couldn't afford to take 16-year-old Norma Jeane with them. Norma Jeane had two options: return to the orphanage or get married.

On June 19, 1942 she wed her 21-year-old neighbor Jimmy Dougherty, whom she had been dating for six months. "She was a sweet, generous and religious girl," Jimmy said. "She liked to be cuddled." By all accounts Norma Jeane loved Jimmy, and they were happy together until he joined the Merchant Marines and was sent to the South Pacific in 1944.
After Jimmy left, Norma Jeane took a job on the assembly line at the Radio Plane Munitions factory in Burbank, California. Several months later, photographer David Conover saw her while taking pictures of women contributing to the war effort for Yank magazine. He couldn't believe his luck. She was a "photographer's dream." Conover used her for the shoot and then began sending modeling jobs her way. The camera loved Norma Jeane, and within two years she was a reputable model with many popular magazine covers to her credit. She began studying the work of legendary actresses Jean Harlow and Lana Turner, and enrolled in drama classes with dreams of stardom. However, Jimmy's return in 1946 meant Norma Jeane had to make another choice- this time between her marriage and her career.

Norma Jeane divorced Jimmy in June of 1946, and signed her first studio contract with Twentieth Century Fox on August 26, 1946. She earned $125 a week. Soon after, Norma Jeane dyed her hair blonde and changed her name to Marilyn Monroe (borrowing her grandmother's last name). The rest, as the saying goes, is history.

Marilyn's first movie role was a bit part in 1947's The Shocking Miss Pilgrim. She played a series of inconsequential characters until 1950, when John Huston's thriller The Asphalt Jungle provided her with a small but influential role. Later that year, Marilyn's performance as Claudia Caswell in All About Eve (starring Bette Davis) earned her further praise. From then on Marilyn worked steadily in movies such as: Let's Make It Legal, As Young As You Feel, Monkey Business and Don't Bother to Knock. It was her performance in 1953's Niagara, however, that delivered her to stardom. Marilyn played Rose Loomis, a beautiful young wife who plots to kill her older, jealous husband (Joseph Cotten).
Marilyn's success in Niagara was followed with lead roles in the wildly popular Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (co-starring Jane Russell) and How to Marry a Millionaire (co-starring Lauren Bacall and Betty Grable). Photoplay magazine voted Marilyn the Best New Actress of 1953, and at 27 years old she was undeniably the best-loved blonde bombshell in Hollywood.

On January 14, 1954, Marilyn married baseball superstar Joe DiMaggio at San Francisco's City Hall. They had been a couple for two years, after Joe asked his agent to arrange a dinner date. "I don't know if I'm in love with him yet," Marilyn said when the press got word of their relationship, "but I know I like him more than any man I've ever met." During their Tokyo honeymoon, Marilyn took time to perform for the service men stationed in Korea. Her presence caused a near-riot among the troops, and Joe was clearly uncomfortable with thousands of men ogling his new bride.

Unfortunately, Marilyn's fame and sexual image became a theme that haunted their marriage. Nine months later on October 27, 1954, Marilyn and Joe divorced. They attributed the split to a "conflict of careers," and remained close friends.

Marilyn was ready to shed her "shallow blonde" image by 1955. It had gotten her into the spotlight, but now that she had the opportunity and experience, Marilyn wanted to pursue serious acting. She took a hiatus from Hollywood and moved to New York City to study under Lee Strasberg at his Actors' Studio. In 1956, Marilyn started her own motion picture company, Marilyn Monroe Productions. The company produced Bus Stop and The Prince and the Showgirl (co-starring Sir Laurence Olivier). These two films allowed her to demonstrate her talent and versatility as an actress. Marilyn received further recognition for 1959's Some Like It Hot, winning a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy.
On June 29, 1956, Marilyn wed playwright Arthur Miller. The couple met through Lee Strasberg, and friends reported she made him "giddy." While they were married, Arthur wrote the part of Roslyn Taber in 1961's The Misfits especially for Marilyn. The movie co-starred Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift. Sadly, the marriage between Marilyn and Arthur ended on January 20, 1961, and The Misfits was to be Marilyn's (and Gable's) last completed film.

At the 1962 Golden Globes, Marilyn was named female World Film Favorite, once again demonstrating her widespread appeal.

Sadly, in a shocking turn of events on the early morning of August 5, 1962, 36-year-old Marilyn died in her sleep at her Brentwood, California home. The world was stunned. Marilyn's vibrant spirit and beauty made it impossible to believe she was gone. On August 8, 1962, Marilyn's body was laid to rest in the Corridor of Memories, #24, at Westwood Memorial Park in Los Angeles, California.

During her career, Marilyn made 30 films and left one, Something's Got to Give, unfinished. She was more than just a movie star or glamour queen. A global sensation in her lifetime, Marilyn's popularity has extended beyond star status to icon. Today, the name "Marilyn Monroe" is synonymous with beauty, sensuality and effervescence. She remains an inspiration to all who strive to overcome personal obstacles for the goal of achieving greatness.

Bridget Marquardt

BIOGRAPHY OF BRIDGET MARQUARDT
In 2001, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my lifelong dream of becoming a Playboy Playmate. I attended the big parties at the Mansion and frequently came up for Fun in the Sun pool parties. I made friends with a lot of the girls at the Mansion, including the girlfriends. One day, in March of 2002, I got a phone call from Hef asking me out on a date. At first, I thought somebody was playing a joke on me! Of course I accepted, and things quickly progressed. Soon I found myself living at the Mansion and among Hef's seven girlfriends. Since then, I have found so much more here than I ever dreamed of. I have found a wonderful, romantic and kind man in Hef, close relationships with the other girls and an unbelievable lifestyle. Hef and I have a lot in common with our love for spooky things, scary movies and the original monsters like Dracula, Frankenstein, and we can't forget King Kong!
Name: Bridget Marquardt
Eye color: Hazel
Bust: 34D
Waist: 25"
Hips: 36"
Height: 5'5" Birthplace: Tillamook, Oregon
Turn-ons: A handyman who can get the job done, ambition and motivation, and manners
Turnoffs: Smoking! Tardiness, negativity, rude and selfish people
Color: Probably pink, but I love almost all colors -- it depends on what the color is being used for.
Fragrances: Victoria's Secret Very Sexy 2 and Coco Chanel
Piece of jewelry: My Playboy Bunny necklace from Hef
Sports to play: I have a newfound love of tennis.
Sports team: I don't really like to watch sports, but if the Raiders ever play big games I like to root for them.
Outdoor activity: Hiking
TV shows: I like historical stuff and true crime like Cold Case Files, The New Detectives, etc.
Movies: Suspense thrillers and horror are my favorite, but I like all kinds of movies. Music: A variety, from hip-hop to the oldies. No country.
Book: I am reading The Historian right now and it's hard to put down.
Subject in school: Communication/journalism in college; English in high school
Junk food: Pizza, without question.
Alcoholic drink: Sour Patch martini. I have also been enjoying red wine lately, especially merlot.
Non-alcoholic drink: Grape Propel
Pets: My black Persian cat Gizmo and my black Pekingese Wednesday. (They match!)
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be in Playboy. I discovered my dad's Playboys when I was about four and I would sneak peeks at them when no one was looking. I was fascinated by the beautiful girls and I knew that I wanted to be just like them someday.
In 1998, Playboy did a search for the Millennium Playmate, so I went to San Francisco to do a Polaroid test. A week and a half later I got a call from Playboy asking me to come to Los Angeles and do a real test at the studio for Playmate. This meant I got to stay at the Mansion for three days, meet Hef and do a real photo shoot with Playboy's makeup artists and photographers! I was so excited and on the top of the world! I waited on pins and needles for months and never heard anything. Finally, about a year and half later I got a letter from Playboy saying they decided not to use my pictures. I was devastated. I put all my attention into my education and earned a B.A. in communications from CSU Sacramento and then graduated with a master of arts degree in communications from the University of the Pacific. Even with my degrees, I still wanted to pose for Playboy. In 2001, I took my savings and moved to Los Angeles to pursue my dream of being in the magazine. Within six months I was dating Hef, and in less than a year I moved into the Mansion.
I am very girly. I love pink, polka dots and bows. I was printing my résumé on pink paper way before Legally Blonde! However, I am not entirely girly. I do a military-style workout routine five days a week at Barry's Bootcamp, I love going on hikes, I like to wakeboard and snowboard (although I have barely gotten to do it), I have gone parachuting and parasailing and I have a newfound love of tennis. I also have a dark side: I am a huge fan of everything horror-related, including movies (The Exorcist), books (The Historian) and Halloween. I even have a black cat (Gizmo)! Every year I go all out for Halloween and I decorate my room like a haunted house! It is very elaborate!
My long-term goal is to host a television show. I would love for it to be about famous ghost stories or haunted locations, but I am willing to spread my wings.

Kendra Wilkinson

BIOGRAPHY OF KENDRA WILKINSON
I was living in San Diego and the Mansion's body-paint artist contacted me and said, "Do you want to be body-painted for Hef's birthday party?" I said yes, but he said he needed to send the Mansion my photo before I could be approved. Hef apparently saw my picture on the big color printer in the hall and asked, "Who is this girl?" He did a little investigation, found my number and called me. He said, "Would you like to be one of my girlfriends and move in with me?" I first met him at his birthday party, and a month later I officially moved in.

I didn't know much about the world of Playboy before I moved to Los Angeles from San Diego, but I took to it right away. A lifelong tomboy and avid sports fan, I don't necessarily enjoy putting on makeup or getting my nails done, but life at the Mansion perfectly suits me. I love watching boxing with Hef and rooting for my favorite football teams -- the San Diego Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles. I love playing in the Grotto. I also have a personal tennis coach and martial arts instructor at the Mansion.
I first met Hef while I was being body-painted for his 78th birthday party. Before our first date, Hef asked me to move in and live as one of his girlfriends. Now, when I'm not working out and attending parties and events, I somehow find time to pursue my goal of being a masseuse by attending massage therapy school five days a week! Eventually I hope to have a career in sports massage or as a sports announcer.

Holly Madison

BIOGRAPHY OF HOLLY MADISON
Born on Dec. 23, 1979 in the stunningly beautiful North Coast town of Astoria, Ore., Holly Madison’s childhood wasn’t exactly what you’d consider typical for a future Playboy model.

Shortly after birth, Holly’s family moved to the sparsely populated Prince of Wales Island in Alaska. It was there that Holly spent the majority of her youth playing in the woods, reading Nancy Drew mysteries and watching bears rummage through her family’s garbage.

In hopes of providing their children with a more normal life, Holly’s parents moved the family back to Oregon. Holly was in middle school, and despite being involved in a number of school activities, she found the transition difficult and at times struggled to make friends. As Holly says, she was like an “Alaskan fish out of water.”

After high school, Holly developed a passion for acting and enrolled at Portland State University where she studied theater and psychology. Frequent trips to Disneyland, however, lead the ambitious teen to fall in love with the warm climate and rolling landscape of Southern California. After two years at PSU she transferred to Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.

In order to support her education and the high cost of living in California, Holly worked as both a Hawaiian Tropics model and as a roller skating waitress at the Santa Monica Hooters restaurant. As her time at the restaurant progressed, she overhead her fellow waitresses talk about the parties they’d attended at the Playboy Mansion. Hearing the hype, Holly was ecstatic when one of Hugh Hefner’s friends spotted her modeling in a Hawaiian Tropics contest and placed her on the Mansion’s guest list.

The Midsummer Night’s Dream party – the most elegant party of the year – was Holly’s first experience at the Mansion. Along with a few of her friends, she explored the ins and outs of the Mansion’s 5.7 acres and mingled with a number of celebrities. Feeling somewhat star-struck and a bit overwhelmed, she left the party completely oblivious to the fact that that she would soon become a regular on the Mansion’s guest list.

Holly spent one year attending parties at the Mansion before Hef invited her out on a personal date. Managing to capture his heart by seducing him with her intelligence and charm, she was quickly invited to become a permanent resident of the Mansion. Holly accepted, and today she is proud to hold the title of being “Hef’s number one girl.”

As her modeling career blossoms, Holly continues to take advantage of the majority of opportunities presented to her. Along with fellow Mansion residents Bridget Marquardt and Kendra Wilkinson, she runs her own clothing line, stars in the E! reality television series “The Girls Next Door” and was recently featured on the cover of the November 2005 issue of Playboy.

Despite having to deal with a hectic schedule that includes weekly photo shoots, interviews and public appearances, Holly remains dedicated to her education. She continues to study business at Santa Monica College and real estate development at UCLA Extension in hopes of one day earning her degree. Having traveled around the country in style with Hef and the girls, her goal in life is to visit every Walt Disney theme park in the world and to seize whatever future opportunities might come her way.

With picture-perfect beauty and a bright attitude to match, those opportunities will surely be abundant.

HOLLY MADISON
I was working as a Hawaiian Tropic model when one of Hef's friends saw me and put me on the Mansion's party list. The Midsummer Night's Dream party was my first Mansion experience. I saw lots of celebrities and Centerfolds and was most excited to meet Hef, Seth Green from the Austin Powers movies and Heather Kozar, one of my favorite Playmates. Feeling overwhelmed, my girlfriends and I left early (but not after feeding the squirrel monkeys). After about a year of coming to the Mansion parties, I finally got a chance to really talk to the elusive Mr. Hefner. I knew we would have a lot in common and hit it off immediately. He invited me out with him on a Wednesday, and I moved in that Friday.

Hi, everyone!
No matter who I talk to, everyone wants to know how an ordinary girl like me came to live at the Playboy Mansion. Here is an abbreviated version of my story: I was born in Astoria, Oregon (home of The Goonies), but soon moved to the sparsely populated Prince of Wales Island in Alaska. Growing up I spent a lot of time playing in the woods, reading Nancy Drew mysteries and watching bears rummage through our garbage. Wanting to give their kids "a more normal life," my parents moved my family to Oregon when I was in middle school. I look back on my middle/high school days and see an Alaskan fish out of water who wasn't good at socializing or fitting in, despite being involved in numerous school activities. I think everyone saw themselves as a nerd in high school, though, don't you? Wanting to be an actress like Marilyn Monroe or Jean Harlow, I chose to study theater and psychology at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon.
Frequent family trips to Disneyland led me to love Southern California and, after two years at PSU, I transferred to Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. To pay the bills, I worked as a Hawaiian Tropic model and as a roller skating waitress at Hooters in Santa Monica. All the prettiest girls from Hooters talked about the exciting parties they attended at the Playboy Mansion. After hearing the hype, I was naturally thrilled when one of Hef's friends saw me in a Hawaiian Tropic contest and put me on the Mansion's party list. The Midsummer Night's Dream party was my first Mansion experience. I attended with a few of my girlfriends from Hooters. We explored the place (which looked amazing!) and saw lots of celebrities and Centerfolds. I was most excited to meet Hef, Seth Green from the Austin Powers movies and Heather Kozar, one of my favorite Playmates.
Living at the Mansion is so much fun! Besides spending time with Hef, my favorite things about living here are getting to know all the Playmates and traveling in style with Hef and the girls. My favorite place we have been together is definitely Disney World in Orlando. It is my big goal in life to visit every Disney park around the world. Two down, three to go!
Mansion life has taken a turn for the even-better lately. The Girls Next Door follows Bridget, Kendra and me on our not-so-ordinary adventures. Sometimes it's a pain in the butt to have cameras following me 24/7, but the show has led to opportunities I have only dreamed of!
Contrary to what most people might expect, living at the Mansion has planted my feet more firmly on the ground. Leading the glamorous life day after day led me to shed my need to become the next Marilyn Monroe. I am now studying real estate at UCLA Extension and business at Santa Monica College. My new goals are to finally get my degree (we'll see if it happens before I'm 80...hee hee!), continue living with Hef and my dogs, and to someday be a mom.
Love,
Holly
