Manna from Heaven
L.M. Willson
I saw through my kitchen window
a man a knocking at my door
my impatient hand did open it
I knew not what would be in store
He asked me for a piece of bread
implying - for days I haven't eaten
there is no bread within this house
besides I have a ladies' meetin
Please look again I pray
and as I did in anger
my anger melted fast away
For in the box where bread is kept
two loves I did discover
and fish were frying in a pan
to my surprise this was another
I went back to the door
a feast I had contrived
but there instead of him
was a child just half alive
This child I nurtured back to health
and to my bosom I did keep
over head a dove was passing
and from this dove a voice did speak
