Final Lullaby
Denise
As she awakes from the anesthesia,
the tears begin to fall.
The pain she feels goes much deeper
than the knife that was used to
perform her hysterectomy.
They will stitch her up,
and send her home with a bottle of
pain killers.
But, this pain will never be eased
with any amount of pills.
Her arms will forever remain empty, as
well as her heart.
For 15 years, she fought the battle of infertility,
but today, infertility won.
From deep inside, she begins to hum a sweet lullaby.
Hush little baby, don't you cry, momma would have
given you the world.
