Science
A. Do different materials effect the growth of pinto beans?

B. Hypothesis: If we use different materials to grow pinto beans, then store-bought soil will grow pinto beans best.
Problem: To find out which material helps grow pinto beans best.
Engineering Goal:

Description and Procedure:

1. Gather all the materials

containers (12 pots)
pinto beans
water
soil
ground soil
store-bought soil
cotton
paper towels
artificial light
labels
sharpie marker
measuring cup
ruler
straw

2. Take out 12 identical pots and measure (using a ruler) the same amount of the material that will be used for growing the pinto beans in 3 pots each since you will be doing 3 trails. Use a marker to label them with their names, like cotton 1, cotton 2, cotton 3...etc.

3. Place 3 pinto beans (together), in the center of each material. We then place each pot under the same location, under the same source and amount of light.

4. Then place a straw all the way down to the bottom of the pot in each pot. Then as you grow the plant, you must draw a line ,using a sharpie marker, weekly to measure the amount of centimeters it grew.

5. You must give each plant 50mL of water at the same time daily for 3-5 weeks. It must be the same source and the same temperature.

6. Observe and measure the changes you see. Take picture while the experiment is taking place. Record your results on a data table and construct a graph. You should be able to determine which material grows pinto beans best.
