BIO: LSU.s feature back as a senior after sporadically playing
with the first team the prior two years. Rushing totals included
187/911/9 with 20/180/1 receiving. Posted 680 yards on the ground as
a junior and career-best receiving numbers of 26/294/4.
POSITIVES: Explosive running back moving up draft boards.
Patient runner with outstanding instincts, vision and speed. Makes
defenders miss in the open field, deceptively strong and breaks
tackles. Keeps his feet moving up the field and in short-yardage
situations. Fast enough to beat defenders around the corner. Solid
receiver who adjusts to the errant throw and catches the pass with
his hands.
NEGATIVES: Runs with an upright style. Marginally productive
as a blocker.
ANALYSIS: A high-motor player who does the extras to become
better, Addai is slowly developing a complete game. Coming off a
terrific senior campaign and solid postseason, he is poised to become
a starting ball carrier at the next level.
Pro tenure: Rookie, drafted in first round in April with the
30th overall selection.
Grew up in Texas? "Everybody that's from Texas loves Texas. I
went to school at LSU and got to see something different, but at the
same time it was kind of the same because it was right next door."
Favorite food: "I love seafood. I love shrimp pasta.
Basically any kind of noodles, I just love shrimp. My favorite
restaurant in Houston is Pappadeaux's (Seafood Kitchen)."
Whom did you idolize growing up? Michael Jordan. "The
way he handled himself, it's like if he was hurt, you couldn't tell.
If he was down, you couldn't tell. You have a lot of good players,
but when bad things go wrong, they really can't move on. The way he
has handled everything, you've got to love that about him."
First thing popped into your head when the Colts called on draft
day? "I kind of had a feeling that the Colts would pick
me up. The whole thing was like, 'OK, let's see who gets picked up
before.' You want to be on a team like the Colts, winning all the
time and just a great system and you've got to love coach (Tony)
Dungy, but then you're trying to get paid. It's a business. A lot of
people would love to be in the situation I'm in. I was really happy."
Four backs taken in first round. Will there be a rivalry to prove
who's the better back? "Everybody wants to prove they're
the best. There will be some type of competition, but I won't say 'I
hate this person' or 'I hate that person.' I met all those guys and
they seemed real cool and laid back, but yeah, you want to be that
person in the first round, you were one of the last picks in the
round, you want to be that best one just to prove people wrong like,
'You all should have picked me."
