CAPE began as an acronym in 1975 for the Center for Assessment, Psychotherapy and Education. This term defined a group clinical practice, CAPE Associates, founded in 1975 in San Francisco. In 1986 a group of mental health professionals, their colleagues and friends founded Cape Foundation Inc. as a registered non-profit charity. The purpose was, and still is, to help the disadvantaged who then agree to help another unfortunate in the same community. In recent years this concept has been popularized by the movie “Paying It Forward.” Finally, in 1997, the CAPE acronym once again transformed itself, this time into Cape Foundation Publications. The managing editor, Carol Eversole, established the new company with the assistance and encouragement of local San Francisco business colleagues and friends. Its principle mission is to replace passive TV viewing with the active pursuit of infinite knowledge through reading, in addition to helping talented writers to become authors. Additionally, Cape Foundation Publications’ major objective is to expand literacy by promoting the power of reading and writing for all. Any Cape Foundation Publications profits are donated to Cape Foundation Inc. or other charities.
