Model comeback for Evangelista? Canadian fashion star in Milan show
MILAN—Linda Evangelista, the St. Catharines-born supermodel, returned to the international fashion runways yesterday for the first time in years, modelling in an exclusive Dolce & Gabbana show here. Now 37 and retired from the rigours of modelling, Evangelista was one of the world's first "glamazon" supermodels. Her appearance coincided with the announcement that Dolce & Gabbana has opened a new boutique here that offers customers the chance to re-experience their historic designs. The 5-foot-9 Evangelista was model-thin and wore her chestnut hair knotted in the back with wispy bangs. She opened the show wearing a sleek and short black dress and an oversized neon orange coat and matching backpack and a pair of platform stilettos. She reappeared in a pink-fringed bustier and tight black pants and came out later wearing a simple shift with a dramatic print of a cat's face. Evangelista began her modelling career in Toronto when she was 12 and was "discovered" by a talent scout from Elite Model Agency in New York three years later when he saw her at the Miss Teen Niagara Pageant. She went on to sign with Elite, worked for Vogue magazine, and was soon off to Italy. Throughout her career, Evangelista has been considered more than a model. She was a chameleon, an actress who could magically assume different personas during fashion shoots. She is most famous for her uncanny transformations into Sophia

Loren and Katharine Hepburn. Backstage after the Dolce & Gabbana show, Evangelista — who once said, "I don't get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day" — smiled and suggested it was too early to say if she was considering a return. "I'll take it one show at a time."
