Goodbye Veron
Manchester United last night agreed to dump Juan Veron on Chelsea for just £14million. Old Trafford boss Alex Ferguson finally decided to cut his losses on the Argentine flop - exactly two years after paying £28.1m for him. Midfielder Veron, 28, is the latest buy funded by the Blues' new billionaire owner Roman Abramovich. The clubs have verbally agreed a fee and the deal could be done by the middle of this week. Veron's departure will come as a massive shock to Old Trafford fans, who expected him to emerge as United's playmaker this season after the £25m departure of David Beckham to Real Madrid.

New US Midfielder
ManUtd.com is delighted to break the news that Manchester United have confirmed the signing of American goalkeeper midfielder Tim Howard.
The 24-year-old shot stopper arrives from MLS outfit New York/New Jersey MetroStars after winning his appeal to gain a work permit to play in the UK. With nine caps for his country - including three won at the recent Confederations Cup - he's one for the future, with his former coach tipping him to have a Peter Schmeichel-like impact at Old Trafford.
Tim is expected to make his United debut in his homeland, during United's four-match tour of the United States this summer.

Russian takeover?
What The Papers Say
Manchester United are on red alert for a £500million hostile takeover bid from another mega-rich Russian following the sale of Chelsea to Roman Abramovich. A Russian multi-billionaire - even wealthier than Chelsea's owner - has begun the process of sounding out what it will cost and the degree of difficulty in purchasing the English champions. United are braced for takeover activity and the key will be the reaction of manager Sir Alex Ferguson's racing friends - the Coolmore Mafia of racehorse owners John Magnier and JP McManus. |
United Sign New Striker
ManUtd.com is delighted to break the news that Manchester United have confirmed the signing of French striker David Bellion on a four-year deal. Bellion joins United following the expiry of his contract with First Division side Sunderland. Speculation that he would come to Old Trafford has been rife all summer but this is the first official word that David has definitely signed for Manchester United. Please send your reaction to this news to FanTalk@manutd.co.uk and visit ManUtd.com later to see if your message has been published. Bienvenue - welcome - to Manchester, David. Best of luck in your new role. |
